risks from travelling after banding

Recommended Posts

Hi all, i live in the UK and am about to go to brugges in Belgium for my band, however i have been made aware about the risks from travelling (esp long haul travel)! Anyone with any experience with this...

i should do alot of travel which involves 8hr flights to africa for long periods of like 3 months... my consultant nurse says not to worry as it would only affect me immediately after a re-fill? is there reason to worry? i am at a point where am thinking of changing and have a by-pass which i think is more intrusive than a Lap Band... anyone out there with experience in travelling and is banded please get back to me... am due to be banded on the 19th!

I don't really see the problem with the travel. You probably just want to make sure you find a center for fills/unfills in the area you will be staying or you will have to wait to get fills during the times you're closer to home.

the prob is that in nairobi they wouldnt have the slightest idea what i was talking about! am not worried about fills - just the risk that comes from flying for 8hrs... thats what the concern is about

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
