Soft Moist Food Ideas

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

I am approaching my 8th Post Op day when I can start soft moist solid foods. Most of the items suggested on my list are things I'm not too fond of eating but am willing to try since it's going to be my means of survival for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Besides, the less I can eat in general now, the less I have to suffer through right?

Anyways, my doc has suggested things like cottage cheese, eggs, baked fish, tofu, yogurt etc. What kinds of things did you eat during this time? A friend suggested Chef Boyardee Mini Raviolis or Spaghettio's but I don't know if that's a good idea. What says those who have been there done that with this stage? Thanks!

In addition to being banded 4 months ago, I have been having dental work done, so I am on the nursing home diet! Make some Cream of Wheat with milk instead of Water, throw a tablespoon of sugar free Syrup on top, and it is delicious. The milk gives it extra Protein, you can make it as thick or thin as you can tolerate, and the warmth feels good on the band. Also, go for Greek yogurt when you can, as it has a higher Protein content. It is also thicker and makes you feel more satisfied.

Make yourself a veggie casserole using either yellow squash, zucchini, or even butternut or acorn squash. Cut them up small, make a mixture of cottage cheese, egg, a bit of skim milk, salt and pepper, and some cheese (I use parmesan) put all but veg in the blender, pour over veg in a baking dish, and bake at 350 for near an hour (keep testing veggies for softness.) I detest cottage cheese, but done this way, you'd never know it was there and you are getting plenty of protein.

Lastly, when you are out, pintos and cheese at Taco Bell are a quick choice, and better than a taco or burrito.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
