severe port pain

Recommended Posts

since my first fill, ( they had to manually flip my port in place again it was flipped sideways) I have had major pain when sneezing coughing, bending over, and moving the wrong way. I havent been able to exercise and even sitting and then moving wrong hurts so bad. i already took one leave through work for my surgery which was approved for a non fmla leave and to find out i would have to apply for another one which i dont think would be approved so im probably going to lose my job sadly. but what can i do?? I think they will probably have to surgically correct the port, since it was loose and now it seems to be sideways again and the pain im experiencing is such a burning pain the lower part of my stomach below my port. i love my band so much and well jobs come and go i just want to ensure im healthy and my band is good. i call today to see when they want me to come in for a consult on the situation. they told me to wait over the weekend to see if it would resolve. i slept like hell last night because turning feels like im tearing so bad and im 2 months out from surgery.

chicmam--SAME HERE. I have this pain at my port site-- or just below my scar. Banded the same day as you as well. Usually it happens when I sit at the wrong angle or my underwire digs into my stomach. Last night I had the craziest dreams and was thrashing around (apparently) and I think I irritated it.....

I have a fill appt with my surgeon on Wed so I am going to ask him about it then but I think it might be the scar tissue that it getting irritated or wrenched around...

Keep in touch.....

I just had my port flipped (on the 11th) and I was back to work (with limits) the next day. It was very quick and not that much pain at all, just alittle sore, like I WAY overworked my left abs...

I'm having portal pain, but it isn't real bad. I say on a scale of 1 to 10, it is either a 1 or 2. I only really notice it when I'm wearing a shirt. It hurts when I touch the skin around it. Otherwise, if nothing is touching it, I feel fine.

Could weight gain be causing the problem? I've gained back about 15 pounds.

How do you know if your port is flipped?

If it doesn't need be filled or unfilled, does it matter if it is flipped?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
