Virgin Lap-Bander Here!

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Holly, I'm 49 years old and live in Cleveland, Ohio. I started this journey approximatley 3 years ago and finally started the process of getting banded in late July. I have attended all the required tests, seminars, and doctor consultations. I should be hearing from the insurance company in the next two weeks. I pray that I will be accepted. My surgeon is currently at the Cleveland Clinic. (Doctor Schauers) After my consultation last week, he told me if the insurances comes through I may have the surgery as early as December. I am thrilled, and ready to accept all the challenges that come my way as a lap-bander. I hope to hear and share everything there is to know before and after surgery. I look forward to talking to you all soon! :rolleyes2:

Hi Pink,

I started looking into all of this almost 3 years ago, only to back out several times just due to the overwhelmingness of it all.The last 2 previous years I tried doing it on my own, with some success, losing 50lbs both times, but I always got stalled at that point, and was still needing to lose another 70lbs. then my dad past away, and I turned to food again, and as you know how the rest of the story goes, I gained it all back and then some.

I went to my GP in mid summer, felt awful, tired, achey, and just felt plain miserable. I told her its time, I'm ready, this time I am REALLY ready, so here I am.

Pink, please don't give up like I did, I wish I had kept with it, and then this would all be behind me, I can only move forward from here on. I am allowing myself to only think positively from now on, no more looking back wishing would've, could've, should've.

Like Nike says, JUST DO IT.

Looking forward to hearing from you again,

Bellamama

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
