Is there a correlation?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if there is a correlation between how much restriction you have post-op and how many fills it takes to get restriction. I had a lot of restriction the first two weeks and wondering if that will mean I will get good restriction from my first fill or if that has nothing to do with it...

Hey again snorkel, we are banded sisters since our operation dates were 10/13/08!

My first fill isn't until 11/24.08, and I'm really curious about this question too. Let me know what your doctor says if you get filled before me please.

The restriction you have in the first two weeks is almost directly related to the swelling you experience post-op. Most doctors place the band empty, as in without fill, because they know that you will be swollen for a few weeks and that will provide the restriction you need. Hope this helps! :rolleyes2:

Jaime hit the nail on the head. Once the surgery restriction is gone - hold on. The hunger will be immense and you'll pretty much be able to eat anything. I had no restriction at all after first fill... A bit of restriction after 2nd fill... Decent restriction for several weeks after 3rd fill - and now looking forward to a 4th.

I had fantastic restriction after surgery that lasted about eight weeks. Since then, I've had what I needed to work with but I'm very immunbe to overfill, pbing, getting irritated etc, my gut is cast Iron and doenst react badly to anythign. I can even still eat bread with 2.8 in a 4ml band.

So not really related.

I understand that it is swelling from the surgery, but what I was getting at is does how much restriction you feel right after correlate with how much you will have with your first fill. I know some people have no restriction after surgery and some have a lot, hence the question.

The first fill is different for everyone. Absolutely everyone. It's strange, haha.

Some people feel great restriction for a week, then nothing, back to before. Some people feeling nothing for two weeks, then wake up super tight - like a delayed fill. It's very hokey if you ask me. Let us know how your first fill goes!

I don't think there is a correlation at all...I had really good restriction after the surgery, but in the week and a half since my first fill, not much restriction at all.

Absolutely nothing to do with it, although it sounds good.

Unlike you - I was opposite - absolutely no restriction and didn't lose a single ounce until:

6 weeks post op 1st fill.

no restriction

4 weeks later 2nd fill.

restriction

that was it. Once I reached restriction I never had another one and that took me to past my goal!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
