trayrenee 0 Posted November 9, 2008 Hello post-op people. I'm due to have surgery in a week and at my final pre-op class they told me that my surgeon uses staples instead of glue and not the kind that dissolve! Yikes! I thought w/such small incisions that surely I'd get the glue and steri strips -- anyone out there in the health professions know why a surgeon would use staples instead of glue? Just curious. I'm sure he has a good reason, I know my surgeon kind of leads towards the very conservative method of everything. He's really obsessed w/everything healing 100% before we attempt working on weight loss. Just one more thing for me to get nervous about pre-surgery! :-)
Mimilou2004 13 Posted November 9, 2008 My surgeon insisted on staples, too, except for over the biggest incision over the port. Made no sense to me that he would glue a huge incision but staple the little ones!!! Oh, well, it is a done deal now. Mimi

Was banded last Monday and was sutured internally and the external skin was glued... no steri strips except on the port site which was considerably larger than all the other. Good luck!!! JuneAct2 0 Posted November 9, 2008 Don't stress about it:thumbup:...Ask your doctor? But, remember that this surgery isn't about stitches and staples...it's about getting your life back and being the healthiest YOU you can be. I wish you all the best. JamieNP 20 Posted November 9, 2008 My surgeon used internal stitches and glue on the outer. All of my 6 incisions look good except one...I think one of the stitches are trying to work their way to the surface.
trayrenee 0 Posted November 9, 2008 I'm not actually worried about the scarring -- I mean, if I lost enough weight where I could be worried about vanity scars in my bikini:tongue_smilie:I would be more than happy. I'm just an info junkie. I was just curious as to why.
Tess415 1 Posted November 9, 2008 I had internal stitches and then glue on the outer part. They healed well, I too had a little part of a stitch show through but it did dissolve without problem. I had staples with my 2 c-sections, don't sweat it they didn't hurt coming out at all!!! You will do fine!!! :rolleyes2:
kjhack 3 Posted November 10, 2008 I had internal stitches and then the glue. I still have glue, that is trying to come off. Almost 3 weeks later. I had the same kind of incisions with my gall bladder 3 years ago and there is hardly any insicion scar left from those. Good luck.
skinnyme2be 0 Posted November 10, 2008 When I went to my pre surgery class they told everyone that the doctors at this facility only use staples so we scheduled our 2 week follow up to have the staples removed that day. I was kind of bumming because it is kind of a pain having the staples in for that long when you are feeling good and don't want to deal with having to not move a certain way because the staples pull the skin and may bite a little. Anyhow, I was pleasantly surprised when I got home and was able to take off my bandages. No staples.. just glue & steristrips in the 5 incisions that I had. So to make a long story short, maybe they are just preparing you and maybe you will be surprised when you wake up to find out you don't have any?? Good luck either way.
