The liquid diet seems prety expensive, I know a case of Optifast is like 70.00 dollars a case. I know that most doctors want you on a liquid diet before & after surgery.

Are there cheaper products that work as well as Optifast, Or can I just create my own liquid diet with slim fast, & glucerna or boost ?

I have great insurance but they said they don't pay for the liquid diet. Can I have some advise.

Thanks

Doc

Get direction from your doctor! That is the safest avenue. For example, I only used the shakes 1 week post op. Each doctor is different, each dietary requirement is different. Mine didn't use Optifast.< /p>

Hi. I didn't use Optifast either. But you do need to get instructions from your doctor and follow them. I had to have a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch every day for my 3 week pre-op diet - dinner was fish, chicken, turkey, lean beef, and vegetables. I used the Atkins Advantage shakes. After surgery,.... a Protein shake for breakfast every day... forever. I like the chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. They are not real cheap, but I'm not spending any more on the shakes than I would on other breakfast groceries. Good luck to you!!!! Becky

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
