My Day is Tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

It's so hard to believe that in less than 10 hours I will be banded! I was only going to tell a few people, but ended up spilling the Beans to a few more than I thought I would. Fortunately everyone has been supportive! I remembered this evening that I forgot to stop to buy my post-op chewable vitamins, but I have enough samples to get me through the weekend so I'll have my husband pick some up Monday.

I didn't tell many people before hand, but I found that I had to tell everyone once it was done. Having been through it this week, I can honestly say that is wasn't that bad, and you'll come out fine.

I have to admit that I've been surprised that I haven't run into ANY negative reactions to my surgery yet. Some people have been curious and wanting to know more but nobody's been rude or mean or anything. Yay!

My surgery was Friday, and I got to spend the night in the hospital following surgery. I am extremely grateful for that time as I was very nauseous post-op from the anesthesia. The nurse in the PACU was very kind and tried everything she could to relieve the nausea. When she finally did, I got my pain under control and everything was ok. I did stay in PACU from 9am until around 3pm because the hospital didn't have a room available, but they allowed my husband to have short visits with me in the PACU, and when I finally got to my private room it was well worth the wait. My only concern with my hospital stay was the staff's lack of knowledge about the lap band. My first clear liquid tray had a regular tea bag, sugar, and a straw on it. The dietician who came to talk to me before I went home was new and actually knew nothing about the lap band, so could not answer any of my questions. My post-op diet said to be on Clear Liquids from 3-5 days post-op, and I wanted to find out what determined when I could move on to full liquids....the dietician had no idea. I basically decided to stay on clears until Monday and call the surgeon. Otherwise, everyone was kind and took great care of my medical needs. Now that I'm home, I'm taking it easy and have only had minimal problems with pain and nausea. I have horrible diarrhea though, and found that this is a common problem post-op possibly due to all the IV fluids in the hospital, or consuming only liquids for so long. I'm excited to finally have my band and continue on with this journey!:rolleyes2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
