United Health Care

Recommended Posts

I'm going for my consult with Dr. Spivak next month and I was just curious to see if anyone has UHC and if they covered the procedure. The lady at Dr. Spivak's office did tell me that UHC is one of the insurance companies that will pay for the procedure, if conditions are met. I'm trying to think positive, because if they don't pay for the procedure, I will more than likely not have it done, and least not now, I'll have to wait til my teenagers are more "dependent, financially".

Actually it isnt there fault entirely, my mom's business chose to exclude obesity as a treatable "condition", but I am fighting it like no tomorrow with examples of laws and practices within TX and the U.S. and am praying that I get accepted this time, I was denied the first go round in April and have just finally given up on the promise that my orthopedic surgeon made to write me a letter. So, good luck to you, and watch those policy exclusions, they are really sneaky, and close to illegal.

Uhc Covered Me 100% With Dr. Spivak. All You Have To Do Is Meet The Criteria Which Having A Bmi Of At Least 41 I Think, Maybe It Is 40. Mine Was 43 So No Problem There Plus I Have High Blood Pressure So That Helped To! Good Luck!

UHC covered mine 100% but every insurance company has to go by the guidelines the EMPLOYER sets up for their individual coverage. Every Employer chooses what they want to havecovered and the insurance company administers the policy according to those guidelines.

good luck, I hope they cover it for you, This has been the best thing I ever did for myself!!!

I too have UHC, approved in 2 weeks, covered 100%, BMI 38 with sleep apnea. It all depends on which policy you have. I used Dr Bryce in Rowlett.

UHC denied me after saying my coverage included weight loss surgery. They said I didn't have enough co-morbidity. I guess you have to be half dead.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
