Holy Protein Cow! Cottage Cheese!

Recommended Posts

Cottage cheese is awesome and you can have it so many different ways. It has been a staple of my banding life, that is certain.

I now use yogurt in place of cottage cheese. I also eat it near different meats because it tastes good together and helps it to go down when I am tight.

Cottage cheese is good if you mix it with tuna instead of mayonaise. If you dont like the curds, you can get the smooth kind or put in a blender to smooth. Also, Hummus and imitation crabmeat has loads of Protein. Check it out.

Greek yogurt goes well with savoury stuff - try grating up a little cucumber (skin and all) to put in it and making your own cucumber dipping sauce. Serve with sliced fresh salad veges (carrot, celery, capsicum) and you have lunch! YUM!

Yup, I love Cot cheese. My grandmother used to take warm green Jello and mix in cottage cheese, pineapple and peacons....its an old southern dish.

We used to eat it mixed with canned peachs as kids. I like it with a scrambled egg and a pickle...I know it sounds weird but I love it. lol I see a lot of people use it in the place of ricotta.

What brand of greek yogurt are you eating with 22g of proteing per serving? I'm eating fage single serving containers with 17 g of Protein because Oikos single serving containers do not have as much as fage. Please tell me which one you're eating. I want the 22g of Protein. I LOVE greek yogurt. I like it with 1-2 t of splenda with fresh berries and a little granola with added walnuts for additional protein. It's a great night time snack.< /p>

Greek Yogurt is thicker and creamier than regular yorgurt.

It has a whopping 22g of protein and 0g of fat in one small container.

It does not taste that great (just being honest) but I can eat it no problem.

I think it's worth it for the protein trade off seeing it's @1/3 of your daily required protein.

I am going to start using the plain in place of sour cream as it has no fat!

I sometimes eat this in place of my dinner when I fix something for my family I cannot or am afraid to eat.

Stoneybrook Farms puts out a brand OIKOS they have plain, honey, and vanilla.

I heard they have a new flavor blueberry I am excited to try.

Walmart carries this brand in my area.

It runs @1.50 a small carton.

I really enjoy cottage cheese - and not just since banding or for Protein, but because I like the taste! I use it as an appetizer (blend with various other ingredients for dips), as a main course (mixed with veggies, or hummus, or as a Soup base, or topping for pasta), as a snack, and as a dessert - by itself, or with fruit, or baked into different Desserts. But I have never heard of mixing it with Jello - I just gotta try that!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
