Stretched Esophagus!!!?!

Recommended Posts

I found out that I have a stretched esophagus :tt1: by the radiologist on tuesday. I have not talked to my surgeon just yet he will not have the results from the GI until Friday or Monday. So for those who had a stretched esophagus what did your Dr do?

Did he/she just unfill you?

Did you need surgery to fix it?

Is your abdomen talking to you?

In a deep voice:angry:

My gas or whatever it is really loud and embarrassing. :rolleyes2: I've never had gas or reflux prior to the band.

Any help with the above questions would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know but I can say this. I was told today that my esophagas might have gotten stretched out due to the band being too tight now has anyone heard of this?

I had my band adjusted in the early summer last year, then thought I was ready to have it adjusted again in the fall (October) because I was able to eat more than I should. When I got there, the doctor said my band was too tight. I thought I'd heard wrong or that she'd meant to say it was too loose. I questioned her and she said that since my last fill it had become too tight. She wasn't able to give me a solid reason as to why, but I asked her why I was able to eat so much if it was too tight. She said that was because it was backing up into my esophagus and stretching it. She said she didn't think I had any permanant damage and that all she needed to do was loosen the band, which she did. She told me to pay attention to what my body was telling me as I ate and stop eating when I felt full, not to continue eating "just one more bite", because if the band were to become too tight and this happened again, permanant damage could occur and then I'd be in real trouble. I went back a month later to have another adjustment because I was absolutely terrified that I had messed something up and my banding was ruined. She said I was good and that I hardly needed an adjustment. Since then I have been very careful about eating.

The same thing has happened to me. I am gaining my weight back because they have released my fill.

I am going in to see if I have the same problem. I couldn't get into the radiologist for another 10 days. I hope I don't have damage.

I had been loose for a while and made an appt. for a fill and then all of a sudden it started tightening on its own. It coincided with a stressful event and over the course of a couple weeks it became so bad that I couldn't drink Water. Instead of getting a fill they had to deflate it. Now I have to get a few tests to try to figure out what's going on.

My Dr. said I may have just had something lodged in there and it became worse and worse. I've never heard of that. Any time I have had something stuck it comes up within a short time. I am hoping it was this theory and not a messed up esophagus or stretching of the pouch.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
