I recently typed a thread about no will power coming with the band. I must be confused b/c I received a reply from someone who stated that due to lack of will power and other reasons she had hers removed. I thought this site was about support. I felt she was saying I was misinformed and should have mine out too b/c I am having alittle adjustment problem. I complain on this site b/c I thought I might receive ideas for problems or maybe just realize that there are others out there that are in the same position I am in. I don't won't someone to say that I need to have mine removed b/c I can't handle the changes. Those of you who don't even have the lapband need to stay off the site.:smile2:

I had my band put in August 2008 and had a lot a adjustment problems, I had to have a endoscophy to remove food stocked on my esophagus and I am still adjusting to this band it does not mean you should take it out. Hang in there and think on the positive outcome when you lose the weight

Hi There - I tend to agree with you. Sometimes people come across all preacher like and it doesn't help when all you're looking for is understanding, support, guidance and advice rather than a sermon! Remember this is an experience that is unique to you. If you have any issues or problems that are really concerning you, your surgeon is the best and only person I recommend talking to. All the absolute best to you. Also remember that if we all had infallible willpower we wouldn't be overweight in the first place and nor would we feel we needed the support a lap band offers us in losing weight.

Hi Party,

It really sucks that you came here looking for support and was basically told that that band is not so great and you should consider taking it out. Not very helpful indeed!

I have a few recommendations, but remember I'm a fellow bandster and not a doctor:

Call your surgeon and see when they are hosting upcoming support groups. If your particular surgeon doesn't offer support groups, call your nearest bariatric surgery center and check into their support services.

You may also have found that there are forums here for complications and ones that offer mentors! If you look over some of the posts and find someone whose posts you really like, you can always try to send them a personal message asking for support...I can't imagine many people would turn you down!

Please try to keep in mind that this whole band thing is a process and everyone is going to have different feelings and reactions based on what they've been thro....I think most people have pretty good intentions, but you are right, this is a place for support!

Keep your head up and keep us posted as to how you are doing!

Many of the posts on that thread were very supportive. This is a public forum so not everyone will respond exactly as we wish! You have to just sift through and take away what you need, ignore the rest.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
