Big Day Tomorrow! Liquids?

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited for this surgery to finally happen! I'm starting to get nervous, as I have about 24 hours until I go in. I'm sitting around the house wondering what I should do now that I'll have trouble with later? I'm doing lots of laundry....gonna go to grocery store to stock up on liquids...What were your favorite liquids during the early stages?

I get it off their web site, I think that might be only place you can get it from.

Gatorade - no yellow according to Dr.

strained clear Soups - more flavorful than broth

warm de-caff tea - I liked peppermint

also -

liquid tylenol

liquid gasx or gaviscon

heating pad for back

cold pack for belly

I also went ahead and made up my area on the couch in front of the tv

Good luck!!!!

I got a variety of fruit juices and broths as they were about all I could get down along with lots and lot of Ensure high Protein kinds. I also got a box of straws because they make me sip instead of gulp my drinks. I goofed up a BUNCH at first and took a big drink and OUCHIE does that hurt!

Heating pad, yes!

liquid Tylenol, yes! (tho you'll probably get something even more fun from the dr)

lots of magazines

lots of DVD's to sit and watch while healing

You are going to do GREAT!!! Be sure to post on the other side and let us know how it went!!!

best Soups I found--pacific brand french onion, asian chicken then when you can have full liquids, carrot, red pepper & Tomato, squash (they come in a carton you will find them with the organic stuff or at whole foods or central market.

best protien drink. I like EAS Advantage Edge carb control in dark chocolate and in cafe' caremel. Both of these are really really good. The strawberry is nasty though.

Don't forget the sugar free Jello.

Oh, I also drank alot of alpine brand sugar free, low-carb apple cidar (it is with the hot cocoa packets.

And the low carb sugar free (made with splenda) hot cocoa mix.

watch out on the gatorade. It has a lot of sugar which isn't too good for especially if that's all your drinking. Try to get your liquids from Water if possible and just fill in with the juice and gatorade.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
