Need some much needed advice...New to the website.

Recommended Posts

HI,

I am new to this site as well. I had my lapband surgery May 14th and have only lost 23 pounds. I guess I was expecting to lose the weight faster..? I am slipping into my old habits and starting to "graze" again. Can anyone give me some ideas of what a typical day for you is....as far as what you eat, how much etc. I have a 10cc band and I think I have about 7 1/2 cc's now...I think that I am at the right fill as some things don't go down very well, and sometimes gets stuck, so you know what that means...:thumbs_down:to the ol' bathroom. In the mornings food tends to get stuck easier than later on in the day. As far as eating how much is the norm that you should be able to eat..without it being too much? I have read many different articles that say you should only be able to eat a very small amount. Depending on the food, I don't feel that I get as full as I should, but am afraid if I get another fill I will be too tight.

As you can see I am in need of some good advice...Any and all are very appreciated!!

Hi blondie. First, congrats on losing the 23 lbs. Now is the time to re-focus and redouble your efforts. Watch your food choices and get exercise.

Ok, I'll post what I usually eat. Keep in mind I'm a big dude and I work out moderately hard. I have a high metabolism, so (depending on yours) I probably burn more calories than you....therefore I probably take in more calories than you. Oh, and I work nights, so that screws things up a lot.

Breakfast (actually when I get off work, around 630 - 7 AM) - scramble 2 eggs, munch on some lean lunchmeat - trying to get in that Protein.

lunch (actually when I'm waking up from my sleep, around 3 PM) - 1 chicken breast diced up pretty small mixed in a bowl with some veg, with a small amount of "stir fry sauce" mixed in. Probably 2 cups worth.

dinner (actually around 10 PM) Tonight, I have a slimfast, a pear, and some lunchmeat. I also brought another slimfast that I'll probably drink around 3 AM as a snack of sorts.

I drink quite a bit of Water, and throughout the day I have some V8's.

One more thing (sorry about the length of this post). It is important to retrain your body and mind on the concept of "feeling full". For a lot of us bandsters, in our old life we had confused "feeling full" with "feeling stuffed to capacity". Now that you are banded, try not to eat until you are "full". Instead, try to eat until you are "not hungry". It's a subtle difference, but an important point. Good luck blondie!!

Hey, thanks for the info!! I want to ask a question...Is it possible to lose inches instead of weight? I feel like I have lost weight but the scales do not reflect it. Also I heard stress etc. causes the band to be tighter??

I fought for almost a year for my insurance to cover my surgery and finally got approved after I had to use Obseity Law Advocates in California. I had lost my job at a factory so had Cobra Insurance. They played every trick in the book of not having to pay, but once they started getting paper work from Walter Lindstrom their attitude changed pretty quick...if it were not for them I know they would have never paid. I live in a very small town in Missouri and jobs are very slim pickings...I have shifted from going back to school, to a job I worked nights and now a job that I work days...maybe one of these days it will all get straightened out..ha ...out of this I have picked up some bad eating habits...I have been heavy off and all my life and I feel like having the band will give me a whole new outlook on life...and a chance for a better one!

Sorry for the long post, but is good to hear how well others are doing and gives me the "pep" that I need. ha

Thanks again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
