I am looking for typical meal ideas. Also I am confused on the amounts :/

I know we are not suppose to eat bread or starchy things and most don't do too well with meats either so now I am wondering what would be something we can eat. I am looking for a typical meal that would be lap band friendly and also how big should that meal be ideally? Thanks in advance! :thumbup:

Breakfast for me is usually juice w/ Cereal - like half a cup. Or a packet of oatmeal or grits. I do toast w/ jelly when I'm brave. My daughter got me a bacon egg cheese biscuit and after one bite, I spit it out....not gonna get something stuck!

lunch is a half sandwich w/ a few chips, or a chicken quesedilla I make myself, or a taco....I love mexican food. I also do a microwavalbe meal if I don't want to cook. chicken salad (tuna/egg, etc) is good with crackers. I can have celery or carrot sticks IF they are finely sliced and I chew well.

Supper last night was chicken fried steak w/ gravy, corn, and mashed potatoes. Tonight I'm going to Chili's but have to be careful with what I order. Sometimes I can have pizza or I eat a veggie plate like green Beans, peas, corn, etc. Sometimes I have a hard time with Beans.< /p>

The band allows us to eat normal foods, just not so much of it. And each of us will find things that we just can't eat - but someone else can.

Good luck! This is a time to just try out everything and find what you like. I do what I call sampler platters. It's a teaspon of everything - I love buffets! Just eat until I'm full and then have the willpower to stop.

I love to make a tofu stir fry with onions, yellow and green zuck, broccoli, mushrooms, peeled eggplant, tofu and sometimes I add shrimp. just a little olive oil I put in a little veg. broth you could add lite soy sauce. My husband and myself enjoy it.

I usually eat whatever I make for my family. Tonight I had chili, I can only eat 1/4c to 1/3 c food. The only time I make something different is when my skinny hubby wants fast food. I eat alot of tuna chicken salad, crab salad. We eat alot of chicken thighs in many ways, but always cooked in the crock so it is tender. ck out the thread what did you eat today in the food section on the website....tons of daily menus.

I'm not to those reg foods yet, but I was told the meat goes down well if moist (with gravy, A-1, etc.) Stuff that gets gooey (breads) or dry (chicken breast) has a higher chance of getting stuck.

We just dont really have the anti starch/pro Protein regime here in Australia, its much more an eat normally but in smaller quantities thing.

I eat bread, Pasta and rice, but I avoid white varieties, I would never buy prepackaged supermarket bread anymore, I only buy health food shop stuff. I would only eat proper rolled oats, never minute oats or those prepackaged single sachet serves.

Um, lets see, yesterday for me:

Breakfast - bircher muesli made by soaking 1/4 cup rolled oats in apple juice overnight and in the morning adding some stewed plums and greek yogurt - it was about half a cup.

Mid morning I had a skim latte - but a latte here is 1/3 espresso, 2/3 steamed milk, not frothy sweet stuff.

lunch was two thin basil and Tomato rice cakes with avocado on them and a banana

Mid afternoon I had some unsalted cashews, probably about 15

dinner last night was roast pork - a lean pork shoulder baked in the oven, mashed potato/sweet potao and steamed broccoli and cauli. I made dessert too which is not usual - plum crumble (basically baked cut up plumbs with a topping of rolled oats, sugar and butter). I had about 1/2 cup of the roast - tiny bit of meat, spoonful of mash, a piece each of broccoli and cauli and then about 1/4 of a cup of crumble with a bit of low fat custard, half an hour later. I also had a small glass of white wine.

this morning I did something a bit naughty and had about 1/4 cup of the plum crumble for breakfast - well really, its fruit, oats and a bit of sugar, but I had some yogurt with it, not custard.

Mid morning I had a skim latte again.

lunch was about 1/4 cup total of left over pork and mash with some gravy and about 1/4 cup of mixed berries with a dash of cream.

dinner tonight we're having a chicken curry with brown rice.

So you can see, I eat completely normal food, I indulge a little bit in a few things that are nice, I drink alcohol moderately, but I do it all in pretty small quantities. I absolutely love banded life, it was the best thing I ever did.

I'm being banded Jan 23rd & a friend who had it done gave me some ideas on dealing with the 6 weeks of liquid diet I have to do post-surgery.

She went to her fave restaurant where she loves the tortilla Soup. She asked for a quart of the broth off the Soup. She said she got the flavor she wanted and it satisfied her. Plus the quart lasted her a few days.

I was also hating the idea of not being able to drink with my meals. She said she took small sips here & there with her food and it helped her get through it all...

ive never really measured, but i do always eat on a small plate when available. here are a few typical meals for me, and i do tweek them a bit sometimes to break the monotony. i have chosen to not really eat beef or pork either.

-small piece of fish and small side salad (i use vinagerette type dressing, with some graded parm. cheese)

-a larger salad topped with grilled shrimp, or grilled chicken, or tuna.< /p>

-whole wheat Pasta or spinach Pasta with ground turkey meatballs, and a small salad.

as for lunches...

-i usually have tuna with lite m.whip, kashi whole grain crackers and whatever ur fav cheese.

-sometimes instead of the tuna ill use chicken breast slices or Hormel turkey pepparoni, plus i usually take a kashi granola bar, and a yogurt too.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

      Woohoo! I have 7 more days till surgery, So far I am already down a total of 20lbs since I started this journey.
