Hello out there.

I finally got banded on October 30, 2008.

Both my daughter and I went in for the procedure. We both tipped the scales at 299lbs. I am hoping this is life changing for our bad eating habits. So far so good!

Anyone from the Chicagoland area???

Hi, and congratulations! I live in Chicago, and am awaiting approval for the surgery from my insurance company. I've been preparing and going through the steps since April, and have fingers crossed that everything will go through this month and I'll hopefully be scheduled for surgery before the end of the year.

I wish you and your daughter all the best of luck!

Thanks for your support. I'm hoping to have a great result with this. We are still on the liquids stage, sunday we go to mushy foods. Looking forward to that because liquids don't keep you filled!

I was banded on 9-9-08. On my first fill six weeks later I had lost 33 pouns. Some weeks I haven't lost weight at all so I am only weighing myself once a week now. I go in for my second fill Nov. 17th. My goal is to have lost 50 pounds by then, to have my BMI in the 30's and to lower my percentage of bodyfat. I find exercise and Water really help with the weight loss. :smile2:

Good luck to all of you. I was banded yesterday (11/4/08) and at the time tipped the scales at 267lbs. I am feeling a little tired today and a little nervous. I am not hungry but so far have only gotten 16 ounces of Water down today. I had a lot of pain in my left shoulder which they attributed as gas. I can't drive for a week and go in for my first pre-op visit on Monday (11/10/08). I am looking at this as a tool and would like to succeed. I have a great support system at home and some of my friends recently had gastric bypass done.

I really found that putting a heating pad on your stomach or port side in the begginnning helped the muscle heal and allowed me to be able to get up and walk around more. The gas pain goes away in a couple of days and walking really seems to relieve some of that pain:smile2: Good luck to all of you keep up the good work!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
