weight watchers on the band?

Recommended Posts

I can't think of any reason a person couldn't and shouldn't do WW. I think it's a great idea to help keep yourself on track. WW is the only diet program my Doctor will reccomend. I also don't see why it is important for WW to know you had LB surgery. I certainly wouldn't tell them.

I was banded Jan 27th. I still attend weight watchers meeting mainly for the weigh in. I also track my food on the weekly planners provided at each meeting. I am losing about 1.5 to 2 lbs a week. instead of the amount of points recommended, I consume no more than 20 points ( about 1000 calories) a day. I track my protien also, making sure I consume the 75 grams that my doctor recommends daily. Since I have been going to weight watchers for a least 20 years, I am very comfortable with the program and meetings. I look forward to the day that I make my goal weight. I do not feel that being banded is cheating the program as it is very hard work to limit my food intake( I do not have any restriction yet), and exercise daily. It is good for me to plan my meals daily and attend meetings.

I really like the WW program and have been thinking about going just to get the last 5kg off, even though I'm at a healthy weight now. I am more than 3kg from the bottom of my healthyweight range, so they will allow me to join.

I like the points program - its calorie counting made simple. I nearly went Tuesday night but something came up, but I think I will next Tuesday. Its only at the bottom of my street.

I'm 2 years out and down to my last 20 lbs to lose. grrrr. I joined weight watchers last week and I never mentioned my band. I mainly joined to help me lose the final 20 lbs. I've been struggling to lose it for over 8 months now and not lost any of it.

I like the support and the weekly meetings. I'm eating about 20 points, they say I should eat 22. So I tweaked it a little.

The band keeps me from getting hungry, so like one poster stated, I'm using WW as a tool with my other tool (the band). I don't look at it as a diet, because with weight watchers, you can eat pretty much anything, it just teaches you Portion Control. Which the band does too, however, I like the accountability of going to the meetings every week.

I've done weight watchers before I was banded. I think it's an excellent tool just like the band, and we can sure use all the help we can get. In fact, after reading this thread, I may join again. I'm sure I would be much more successful this time. :tt2:

I wasnt planning on saying anything about my band either. I just know that they'll tell me I need mega points and I know I dont, so I'll adjust accordingly if I go.

I am so glad I am not alone on this one! I have been doing the WW points since about the 3rd month in. I was losing wt with the band only, but felt really unsure how to 'eat' healthy with the band. I would eat too many calories or not enough etc. I HATE HATE HATE being stuck so I am NOT getting another fill for a long while if ever. I was getting stuck if the wind blew the wrong way! So I was heading down the: "slider food, wt gain slope" It was all too much.:tt2:

So for me, doing WW points and having the band is working great! Now, I know what I need to 'target' to be eating healthy and so it makes things more manageable.

I do the same thing Kathi does (Kastoner) --I have like 3 pts calculators so I have them all set to the lowest range (about 20pts per day) and use my flex points each week <=35.

I walk about 20 minutes, 5 days wk.

The choose to eat like this:

1st Protein, then add a vege.

Then have a Calcium and fruit and last I do a carb.

That is about it. So far so good!

If I am hungry I eat more. If not then, I have to deal with head hunger. But the biggest motivator is loosing just that little bit nearly every day--by the end of the week I am down 1-2 pounds.:tt2:

IMO (In My Opinion) the only way I would be able to do weight watchers or even eat a lean cusine meal is with a lap band! :hurray:

I have done weight watchers in the past and what didn't work for me was too much freedom over food

sometimes "food addicts" can't handle certain foods and crave more and more

example- ww makes their own Snacks and bars- I could never stop at just 1 package!

it depends on the food- because somethings can still go down eay even with the band! it's all about the food chemistry!

WW is a wonderful program. If nothing else it will educate you on portion sizes and strategies for handling hunger.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
