weight watchers on the band?

Recommended Posts

Is it a bad idea to also do weight watchers while having the lap band? I have no restriction yet, not until after thanksgiving.....but i can eat anything. Could also combining weight watchers help?

Good question. I have nutrisystem food still left and wondered the same thing. I have some restriction, will be glad to see what everyone thinks about this question. Thanks for asking it.

i also know that they also have the meals in the freezer section. In my line of work (dog training) it is easier to throw something healthy in the micro. then to make a whole meal. I figure that they are small to begin with, and that i would still stop when full, but it would be easier for me to do that then to "eat until satisfied" i which i had a max amount of calories or a target to go to.

Yeah you can do weightwatchers and Atkins and stuff...With the nutrisystem and jenny craig though you should be carefull because a lot of surgeons tell you to stay away from Pasta, especially if it's been microwaved because that changes their structure... Good luck

I think that that would be something you would ask the people at Weightwatchers...I went to weightwatchers preband and there was a lady that went there that had had bypass surgery and she was always complaining that she couldn't get in her points and blah blah blah...lol it always made me feel like crap that I ate all of my points and was still starving. You could also do the core system where you can eat all you want or as little as you want as long as it's all "core food". Call weightwatchers and ask or go on their website...

It might, but it is very possible that once you get a fill or two you will find that it is not necessary. Personally, I would not choose to go that route. I got the Lap Band to get out of the endless dieting cycle. For me, it was either go with one of those programs (again ) OR get the surgery.

Surgery alone is working great. I do stay away from foods that I know are not good for me when trying to lose weight (CARBS) but for the most part I do not diet and I do not need to diet. I follow the band rules and eat the foods that I like; the band keeps me from eating more than I should or getting hungry before my next meal.

I suggest that you just wait and see. Maybe you will need that structure from WW (in the beginning, due to my lifelong dieting mentality I thought I would ) but there is a good chance you will not.

Some of those Nutisystem meals make good "convenience" meals. Big Lots has some of their food and I bought several cans of stew and chili and keep them in the cupboard for a quick meal...they are the perfect size.

So far I have no trouble with microwaved meals. I like Healthy Choice and they have small amounts of Pasta or rice, not enough to really bother me so far. I am having my second fill this Thursday and hoping for more restriction. I see no problem with joining something that will help you, although I don't think I would tell anyone at a meeting that I had Lap Band Surgery. I heard they don't think highly of it.

Shamrockgirl, you are right about that. When I was thinking about getting the band, I was doing weight watchers at that time. I mentioned it on their message boards and you would not believe the flaming they gave me. Every so often I peak back in and search to see if anyone is posting about WW and the band. They still flame anyone that has WLS.

My favorite frozen meal is South Beach. The portions are just right and they focus on high Protein low glycemic.

I had my surgery on 10/5 and after the first four weeks, I did not feel a restriction at all. I decided to go back to a low carb low fat diet and was able to lose about 16lbs before my first fill. My doctor was very pleased. I think going on weight watchers is a great idea. Even after getting filled, you are going to have to come up with really healthy balanced meals for yourself.

I hope this info helps.

I still go to WW for the weekly support and wigh in...I am 1 1/2 yrs out from band, still have a ways to go....I haven't "fessed" up at my meeting about my band but have posted about it on the boards...some of THOSE boards will flame you for anything, so I wouldn't take it to heart...I am using the tool of WW with my other tool, my band. I usually have problems getting all my veges and fruits in...I find juices V8 or fusion works best for me...but the smoothie mixes are great sources of Protein, 14-17 gm per drink and it helps get my Calcium in....do what is best for you...I could have done it all with just weight watchers, but it would have taken me forever-er...it is still taking me a while, but slower is better anyway...

I agree with many of you that we need to find what works for us. In the past, WW would only work for a short time and then I would find myself eating horribly again because I didn't have enough "self control" and felt like I was starving. Now with my band in, my hopes are that WW WILL work now because I will be able to choose what I want to eat and be able to actually eat the "1" serving of whatever it is and feel contentment. BTW, my WLS center actually suggested WW as one of the programs to follow (besides their program of course) because it does have structure to it. They even gave us a list of websites to look into and WW was one of them. Huh, go figure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
