I was banded 10/17 and am feeling (and looking) pretty well healed except for the port area... It aches quite a bit and I feel a slight pull when I move or lean in that direction. I haven't seen anyone mention lingering aches at the port site, so wanted to hear if anyone is experiencing that as well???

Thanks!

WELL I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF, BUT YES I STILL HAVE SOME SORNESS. I WAS BANDED 9/22 AND STILL EXPERIENCE EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE FEELING. SO DON'T WORRY, I AM SURE IT IS NORMAL. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY!!!

I am glad to know I am not alone! When I told the surgeon I was still having pain and reluctant to exercise, he told me it was "mind over matter Lesly." Whatever Doc!!

I'd like to think I am a pretty tough cookie, but this recovery seems to be taking longer than I had anticipated.

i know what ya mean- granted your 10 days out longer than i am but, is it normal for it to hurt when i sneeze lol? cause i sneezed today and i just sat there holding my stomach cause it hurt sooooooo bad. i took a muscle relaxant earlier cause for some reason my muscles are locking up like crazy around it... i think its cause, well i have fibromyalgia and my body is going haywire over it being there:tounge_smile:

I too still have port pain. I saw my dr yesterday. He said it was very common. To take tylenol or advil. By the end of the work day I'm on edge because it is so sore. But he insists it will get better. I'm only 2 weeks out,so hopefully soon. Best of luck all!

I'm 3 weeks post op. I was in pain too. On top of that my port incision got infected. I've been not of pain since my 14th day post op. I didn't take any pain medication either. So.. I'm not sure if its normal. I hope you'll fine:)

I was banded on 10/5/2008 and I know exactly what you are talking about. My surgeon says that this is normal because my body is adjusting to the port. I no longer have any constant pains but I do feel a twinge every once in a while. As long as your port area is not hot to the touch or blistery, you should be fine.

My surgery was 10/16 and I definetly have the port pain and I feel it from under my left breast down to my belly button, but there is a sharp pain at times right above my port incision which sucks but my friend that had the band surgery in June said that will go away in a month or two:) Something to look forward to!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
