your favorite chewable vitamin...

Recommended Posts

I had my LapBand done in October 2007. I have been taking the Centrum Adult chewable Vitamin since then but bought the Bariatric Advantage VitaBand Vitamins (lemon cream flavor) last month. They taste hideous :D ! I can hardly get them down. I'll go back to the Centrum chewables but feel like I've wasted my money on the expensive, supposedly-better-for-you vitamins. Would anyone else share their good/bad experiences with chewable vitamins?

My doctor's office recommended Flinstones. I thought about taking something more "adult" but they all taste bad.

Hi:

I used to use the Centrum chewable vitamines. However, I found that I was getting heartburn from them.

Somebody in my support group told me they take two of the chewable gummy-type Vitamins each day and the doc said that was okay. So, as soon as I ran out of the Centrum I switched to the Gummy Chewable type. I've been using those since. They're not horrible, and they don't give me heartburn.

Best wishes to all of my fellow bandsters.

Sue

I'm telling you - the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins taste horrific! I have challenged my bariatric nutritionist to investigate chewable vitamins. Concerning the sugar issue, surely the amount in one Vitamin is somewhat negligible. Do any of you crush a regular Vitamin and eat it with pudding/yogurt?

I take the chewable Bariatric Advantage Vitamins (VitaBand) too - and I agree with you, the lemon-cream ones are awful! However, there is another flavor - Watermelon. I like the watermelon, it is MUCH better. Maybe your Nutritionist can find them for you? At Beaumont Hospital's Weight Control Center, I was given a sample of each chewable vitamin, to see what flavor I liked. Here's a link to the website of these vitamins: Bariatric Advantage - Multi-Vitamins (and here's a direct link to the watermelon ones: Bariatric Advantage - Bariatric Advantage VitaBand Chewable Multivitamin - Watermelon (180ct) Maybe you could show it to your nutritionist, and you can collaborate with him/her on getting a sample of the watermelon ones, to see if it works for you - before you spend the money on those vitamins again.

Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
