mamalovell 0 Posted November 3, 2008 I found this very interesting and thought I would share. I went to my 2nd post-op appt. and 2nd fill last week. 1 of my questions was about hair loss. I am losing tons of hair even though I make sure to get more then my recommended Protein everyday. My surgeon told me that Hair loss is based on how much weight you lose and how fast. The faster you lose the more hair loss. I have lost 40lbs in 2 months and 65lbs since July,08. She said the hair always grows back but that the loss will happen regardless of the Protein intake if you are losing fast. The protein intake will help with the regrowth. SBNYC 0 Posted November 3, 2008 I have a friend who experience hair loss....but it has happily grown back. She lives far away so I can't tell you the timing of when it was lost and when it grew back. However it is back, thankfully. I also thought it was related to Protein intake. I'm pretty sure that's what the books and doctors told me. In the case of anorexics, they grow hair on their bodies the more weight they lose because it's the body's way of keeping itelf warm. Seems counter intuitive to lose hair -- but who knows! trinity2008 0 Posted November 8, 2008 I, too, suffer from hairloss. It completely scares me. I lost 35 pounds in two months and now lost a total of 50 pounds since surgery back in april. I continue to drink my Protein Shakes each day and am unclear why this is happeining. My hair has thinned out greatly making styling difficult. I asked my hairstylist about it and she said its because of the rapid weightloss and that it will continue to happen until my weight has stablized (weight loss goal that is!). Well, I have relatively stablized (not the weight loss goal) and my hair still continues to fall out!! I am worried that I will eventually go bald at the crown of my head! My doc says its all temporary but how much more will I lose?!?!? Its bad enough I have baby fine hair and I dont need to lose anymore. So I guess this will continue until I reach my goal???
Carrie_C 9 Posted November 8, 2008 I am also losing a lot of hair. I am losing very slow, so I don't think that is the reason. I had surgery in May and I just now hit the 30 pound mark. So I don't think that's what it is. I also get enough Protein and take Vitamins. So I am at a loss as to what is causing it. I have been using Nioxin, and it is doing no good. dr_justice 0 Posted November 8, 2008 I didn't experience any Hair loss after getting banded. I was already bald. Does that count?
health4life 0 Posted November 8, 2008 I hear these stories about Hair loss and thank God I have a lot of thick hair which means a little hair loss won't be as noticeable. I am taking Biotin now which should help with that. Good luck to you all!
Carrie_C 9 Posted November 9, 2008 I noticed today that mine is starting to grow back. I saw some short hairs sticking out.
