Lonestar925 0 Posted November 3, 2008 Hey ya'll ~ I was banded on Thurs (10/31). Feeling about 90% except for the occasional gas pain in my right shoulder  It's agonizing!! I definitely feel restricted, but am minding my P's & Q's. I'm not one to throw up and personally would rather gnaw off my own foot, so I'm careful and cautious. However - now that I'm back to mushies - I'm wondering - why can't I have a boiled or deviled egg? Why can't I lick a spoon with Peanut Butter? Why aren't veggies on my "ok to eat" list if they are cooked very "mushy"? I'm not talking about mean or bread or anything like that, but I'm finding myself craving a boiled egg - which I've never done, but that tells me I'm probably craving Protein. I had a shake and it is was fine, but I just want to expand a little bit. What's the big concern if I can tolerate it and it's healthy, and I'm eating it within appropriate portions? I like to cook, and try new things. I guess I'm just a little confused about why the main Protein source should be a shake. Can't we eat a little more naturally/organic/healthy foods that are just cooked to the right consistency/texture ~ or am I just misunderstanding? My follow-up isn't until the 12th, but I'm thinking of calling sooner just to ask.
bugginbri 0 Posted November 3, 2008 I am on mushies now and I can have egg salad. I just cut up boiled eggs with a little big of light mayo. Chew it well and it goes down great.
BrendaLH 0 Posted November 3, 2008 Wow! you were banded on 10/31/08? I guess every doctor is different, but my doctor had me do liquids for two weeks after surgery then one week of mushies. I am shocked that your even on mushies this early. Take it slow and focus on the reasons you got banded in the first place. Best of luck to you!
lipstix64 1 Posted November 3, 2008 I guess all docs are different- my doctor also has me on shakes only for two weeks and the one week of soft Protein, then from there the food gets a little better. The point is that you can only tolerate thin liquids at this point and you might stretch out the and if you try any else or you might throw up. Ask your doctor. Lonestar925 0 Posted November 3, 2008 Thanks for all the info. I only had to do Clear Liquids for 3 days after, then back to mushies. Good idea about the egg salad. I'm just mainly sick of Soup and oatmeal! I had mushies for two weeks prior to the surgery.
Sherry.Anderson 0 Posted November 3, 2008 I was banned on the 24th of october and my doctor had me on a staight liquids for a week then to thicker liquids the second week, then mushy foods the third then solids the fourth... my body hates it!
Lonestar925 0 Posted November 3, 2008 Mine was mushy foods 2 weeks pre-op, clear liquids for three days post op, then back to mushy for 5 weeks, then whatever I can tolerate. I'm tolerating the mushy foods fine and can probably live on them for a long time - I'm just bored with the few things on the list and want to broaden - which I think can be done safely with healthy foods just by cooking different. jchanquet 0 Posted November 3, 2008 When I had my surgery my doctor did not have me eat food in general for 4 weeks post op. Then I started on mushy foods like scrabbled eggs, mashed potatoes, hot dogs, etc. Things that could be mushed up really well. My doctor said one reason is because the stomach is adjusting to the band and is recovering from the surgery. Hope that helps.
