I was curious as to how long it took from the first time you go to the dr for a consultation to the actual date of the surgery. I am in the process of making and appt to go get my first consultation and I wanted to know when I might be able to get the actual procedure if everything goes well.

Well, I went to see the surgeon 6/23/2008 and did all my requirements before September. I got called in October and they let me know my surgery date, which is 12/5/2008. So I would say depending on when you can get your appointments all in and all the requirements met for your particular insurance, about 6 to 8 months. Hope that helps. It's a long process.

My packet said it takes 3-6 months from start to surgery. Though I'm knocking the requirements off quickly so I can hopefully get mine done before the new year. All I got left is surgery consult and 2 nutrition appointments and a pcp surgery clearance. I have medicare so i don't need pre approval. it depends on your insurance. You have to wait for them to approve your surgery so that takes time also.

My insurance doesn't cover LapBand, so I am self pay. I went for my first visit/orientation on 10/21/08 and I will be banded this Thursday, 11/06/08. I think a lot depends on if you're using insurance, and how quickly appointments can be set. I was "done" thinking about it and READY to go! So, I told them I wanted to do it ASAP.

:thumbup:It will be 5 months from Info session to Surgery date (Nov 10)

I have Aetna HMO and they didn't give me any trouble. Also depending how quick you get your Dr appts. Aetna requires a very extensive check up, cardiology , pulminory, sleep apnea, physic evaluation, Colonoscopy & endoscopy, nutritionist for 3 months, etc. I got my approval today!!:smile2::thumbup::thumbup:

I am cash pay. I had my consult at the beginning of October and will be banded on 11/21/2008. I got my surgery date the day of my consult and could have done it only two weeks later if I wanted to. I chose to delay until the end of November for personal reasons.

It really does matter in terms of whether you are paying for it yourself or if you are wanting insurance to cover it. Insurance takes longer. Cash pay, they lay out the red carpet and you can pretty much move as quickly as all the pre-op stuff allows.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
