So, on the 18th of this month will be 3 months since I had my band put in. I have now lost 23 pounds ( not as good as most people). Only having lost 23 pounds, I am still glad I had this done. I have a couple before pictures and was just wondering, how often have all of you taken picutes of yourself just to compare with the before. I have been thinking of having my mom do a few aftershots just to see how far I have come and if I look any different. Problem is, I am really scared to have them taken. I'm worried that if I don't see a big change, I will get discouraged (however you spell it) and become depressed. Any advice on this subject?

Hello On my Way,

I am also about 3 month out from my banding. My personal position on taking pictures is, I took a few the day of my surgery and then take the same “poses” on the anniversary day each month. (oh yeah I also wear the same clothes as I did the day of surgery) You will be SO surprised how much you change. I will not look at the pictures until AFTER my husband puts them on the computer next to the previous pictures. THEN he will tell me the changes that I don’t see. After reviewing them then they are filed until next month, so I will not keep obsessing on the images. Also keep in mind that each of us are different and all loose our weight at different rates.

Good luck!

I completely forgot to take my "official" before pics... I guess I'll just have to live with the candid shots that have been taken recently... But remember, you're doing so well!! Where would you be without the band? Try not to get discouraged! You are brave for taking control of your life and your body! :cool2:)

I was banded 9/2/08, and in the process of taking new 2 month post op pics today. I also wear the same clothes and use the same poses. Seeing the difference no matter how slight is very motivating to me.

Hey there! I was banded on Aug 20th and I'm down 25 lbs as of today. I just had my first fill yesterday so we'll see how it goes now. BUT - I say ABSOLUTELY get your pictures done! As tough as it is to do it is so worth it! I took a whole bunch right before surgery and they are even posted on this website (they are scary!!) and then I took more on the one month surgery anniversary (I was down 23 lbs). When I looked into the camera after taking each pic (I take my own with the timer function) I thought "aw geez-I don't really see much difference", but then I put them onto the computer and really looked at each shot before and after, side by side and whole SMOKES is there EVER a difference! I'm sure you will see one too! I take them in a door way and always wear the same clothes and pose the same positions. It's pretty amazing and I am so glad that I am documenting the journey. It's totally a personal choice but for me, I am glad I'm "taking notes". It helps on those days that I'm not totally on my game too. GOOD LUCK and keep us in the loop!!!

Stace

ps - I will try and get the updated pix posted in the next day or so...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
