From what I understand this is completely dependant on your income etc. I don't know if you do your own tax return or if you have an accountant do it, I take my stuff to an accountant. All I did was give him all my receipts for the surgery, hotel rooms, meals etc and he claimed it as medical expences.

Almost every year I break even on my taxes, I don't pay, I don't get a return... By claiming my $16k surgery etc I got about $2300 back.

I don't know much more about it...I'm oblivious when it comes to this stuff, that's why I pay him

I think you get something like 20%, I'm the same, I gave it to my tax lady.

However what I didn't know, which was helpful, was that my husband as the bigger earner, was allowed to claim it on his taxes. I'm self-employed so it wouldn't have made much difference to my tax return. Also, make sure you have a proper receipt from your clinic as the tax department will flag you and ask for a copy of the receipt. (I originally got a statement, and not a bill) It is the amount we are claiming that brings it up for a query. But I was asked for it, and faxed them the invoice and I got a letter saying all was well. My accountant warned me that would happen, so I didn't freak out or worry about it.

At least we get something back!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
