Hair LOSS! Yikes, I'm over a year post op...

Recommended Posts

I wanted to see if anyone could give me some suggestions for my sudden hair loss.....

Believe it or not I'm a hair stylist, lol, but the only products Im aware about is Rogain. I have a friend that had bypass and she swears by it.

Anyhow, another concern is that I noticed in the other threads, most of the banders note that Hair loss ranges between 4 mos and 11 mos post op. I never noticed any of this during this time, now here I am 14 months post op and Im shedding like a nervous dog. I cant take it anymore. Its becoming embarrassing and Im so self conscence of it.....

I picked up some Vitamins today, but I was curious to see if anyone ever heard of other banders being that far out and shedding.:rolleyes2:

Any tips would be great

Thanks

Wendy

I am a new bandster. It will be 2 weeks on Mon. From everything i have read and heard, hair loss is usually more from not enough Protein.< /p>

I'm glad I found this thread last night. My surgery was just about 5 months ago and I've noticed a lot of hair in my brush lately. I never considered that it might be band related. I probably don't get enough Protein since meat is hard for me to eat without too much restriction. I do drink milk every day and try to eat cheese too. I went out and bought prenatal Vitamins today. I hope it helps.

Mine wasn't actually thinning that I could tell, but I was noticing a pretty big handfull on the sink each morning. My doctor was fussing at me to take my Vitamins, so finally started them. And guess what? The Hair loss stopped. <slapping head> I wish I had started on them sooner.

I think a lot of people take Biotin.

I've been having Hair loss issues too but I don't think it's related to my band or weight loss since I'm over a year out too and definitely get in plenty of Protein.< /span>

I've noticed my hair is thinning and breaking around my face. I don't take the best care of my hair and haven't had it cut in over a year. I often pull it back in a pony tail (which could be my problem) and lately I'm noticing all these Whisps around my face. I used to be able to pull it back smoothly.

I just found this when I did a google search. I'm going to try it.

Biotin is one of eight essential Vitamins that comprise the B-complex. Biotin used for Hair growth. Biotin works with other B vitamins to make healthy cells and convert carbohydrates, fats, and Proteins into energy. Biotin is also known as the Vitamin that produces healthy hair and helps prevent graying. Biotin is a widely used ingredient in hair products due to its hair promoting properties. Biotin increases hair cortex elasticity , prevents breakage, and thickens hair cuticle. A condition called seborrhea dermatitis, or cradle cap, which is characterized by a dry, scaly scalp, may occur as a result of biotin deficiency. Biotin plays a vital role in the production of energy from the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats. It may support the health of nails and offer treatment for brittle nails. Biotin also promotes healthy hair, skin, sweat glands, nerve tissue, bone marrow, and male sex glands.

I had it also and still occasionally lose a few strands, but I found that it was relatively short lived and resolved itself. I always took Vitamins regularly and Protein has always been a primary staple of my diet.

I was doing everything right but still had a loss (however, I think if I wasnt doing everything right it might have been a much more significant loss).

Also, it is important not to forget that we have given our bodies quite a shock. Our bodies deal with this shock in different ways and hairloss is one of those ways. People also experience hair loss during pregnancies, times of extreme stress or prolonged sicknesses.

After reading many, many, many threads on Hair loss, one thing I noticed is that for most people who had the hair loss start months in the past and were banded for most of or more than a year, hairloss stopped either on its own or with a little dietary/vitamin help. It seems to be an issue typically resolved over a few months . . . . as long as you are getting appropriate nutrition.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
