Tell me about your first days/weeks

Recommended Posts

I mean your first days/weeks being banded but on regular food - after the liquid and mushy phases, or after your first fill. What was it like for you? Did you feel hungry a lot? Did you try to eat the wrong things out of habit (too much, wrong texture) and then catch yourself? Or eat it and learn the hard way? I want to know what to expect. Thanks.

My doctor doesn't put in any fill during surgery, so I really had no problems when I started real food. I was really nervous about eating. I have only had one PB since being banded. I was eating chicken breast. I think it was a combination of things that caused it. The chicken was too dry, the bite was probably too large, and I was probably eating too fast. I haven't really had any other problems so far. I am hungry sooner than I would like. I have found that some foods just don't feel comfortable for me since my first fill. For example, I made swiss steak in the crock pot today. The meat wasn't hard, I chewed it very well, yet I could feel the small particles going down (not pain, I could just feel it). That wasn't comfortable to me, so I may wait a while before trying that again. I have tried several foods. I think each person will react differently to some things. I don't know if I am reacting more out of fear of PB and sliming, but this has been my experiences so far. Sorry for such a long answer!

I was banded on Spet 24 and have no fill as of yet. I have had my share of sliming episodes, that are my fault. I have yet to learn to slow down, chew better and take smaller bites. To me sliming reminds me to do these things, I do not find it bad at all. I have PB'd a few times as well. I am a gaggy type person to begin with, so it is somewhat normal and not bothersome to me. I am not sure if I will even get a fill come November 13th. It is all a learning process. As much as I love this site, you will learn best from trial and error. Good luck Tamara

thanks so much! i was banded 10-1 & 1st fill 11-5. i'm discouraged reading, & realizing i may not feel restriction for months. no wonder they say bypass is faster loss - it's not a surgical issue but rather a lapband tweaking issue.....

Once I started on 'real' food, I was very cautious - fearing the slightest thing might cause PBing or slippage or a thousand and one other catastrophes. Within a few weeks, I relaxed and just learned to eat, or rather learned to chew! That was the difficult thing - really taking the time to chew and chew and chew and chew and chew! I tended to gulp food.....open wide, swallow almost whole and shovel more in fast! I did that a few times - OUCH! Each time I think, well I'm never doing that again. But, I'm human, even 8 months later, sometimes if I am really hungry I forget to chew - and relearn the lesson.

chew chew chew chew chew chew.....train your body NOW before you start getting fills. This is a lesson you MUST learn.

I'm getting freaked out, but reading things like this helps calm me down. I think it's a matter of taking it slowly and learning as you go. Okay, I'm still nervous, but I'm trying not to be. :cool2:

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
