Hi PattiKay--

My surgery hasn't been scheduled yet, so I can't answer your questions about pain and food, but I did want to say hello. I, too, am in Michigan and would like to know where you're having your surgery and who your surgeon is. I'd also be interested to know who's your insurance carrier and whether or not the approval process was long or difficult?

Good luck to you, PattiKay! I hope that this surgery results in you feeling younger and healthier than you ever have. I'll look forward to hearing more about your journey.

Take care,

Beautylocs

Hi Pattikay...

I had my surgery in Port Huron April, 2007 and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I had no discomfort afterwards except for some slight pulling at the port site. I had no issue with gas pains at all. I walked and walked and walked after surgery and that's the key. You have to get up and get moving.

I can eat most anything now, just very small portions and I have to be careful to chew, chew, chew and eat slowly. You will learn what foods you can and cannot eat. Pasta is a slow go for me so I avoid it and bread. Any dry meat will not go down easily. You just have to be careful. I live in Alpena and travel 4 hours for a fill because I have the utmost confidence in my doctor and the Port Huron Hospital. PM me if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to answer them if I can.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
