Hi shipp9727,

I'm so happy for you, I know how you can feel. If I can give you an advice, do everthing they ask you to do so you won't regret anything. The 2 weeks on Boost diabetic is not always easy but when you know there's something beautiful waiting at the end of the tunnel, it's all worth it. I did it and you feel so proud of yourself after you've done it. I lost 20 pounds during those 2 weeks. After the surgery, you'll still have to eat or I should say drink for 2 weeks but with more variety like juice, shakes, broth, etc. If I was able to do it you can too. If you have any hard times, you can always send me something. The major part here is to have a GOOD SUPPORT GROUP. That really helped me. Good luck and don't be shy I'm here to support you. Tu peux le faire!!!

Hi Shipp9727,

Yes, I do. May I ask why? Are you the guy who's friend with one of the worker? If so, she told me about you.

Just to let you know, we're planning to start a support group for the ones who are planning to have gastric surgeries and the ones who already got it. We're planning to have a French group and an English group too. Maybe you would like to join? The process is started but it won't be before September for sure.

Hi Shipp9727,

That's to funny!! You got me there, I thought you were from the Acadien Peninsula and Shipp meant Shippagan hi! hi!. I will certainly keep you posted. Actually, I leave right next to that little mall. I'm feeling really good. I even went to see Le Cirque du Soleil in Saint John and I already started to take some walks. The important thing is to listen to you body. When I need a snooze I take it and sometime it's a long one. For me the hardiest time was during that 2 weeks on Boost diabetic. You really need all the support you can get either from your co-worker, your family, your friends. If you ever need to talk to someone you can go see your friend at Familiprix and ask her for my phone number. I'll let her know I told you so. . . and don't be shy.

ALLO LA LA ;-)

Our names are Annie and Cindy we share an account. We work together in a call center in Bathurst and we are both waiting to get the lap band hopefully sometime this fall. We were both refered to Marc Savoie and are waiting to see him soon we hope.

We have been reading this forum for a few weeks now in secret ha ha ha ;-)

We were wondering do we have to go through a series of test before the surgery like psychiatric? dietician and all that...???

That's what we were told by a collegue of ours....

Annie went to see Dr Khan already and she is waiting to get some news. I however am still waiting to have some news from my family doctor that told me she was going to refer me directly to Marc Savoie. ..... Do we need to see a specialist first???

Hey Clempier ;-) How many boost are we aloud a day on the pre-op diet?????

Hope to hear from you guys soon

Ps... When is the french or English group support will be active? I think that is an excellent idea :)

Have a great day!!

Cindy and Annie :)

2. Boost question: 4 me 4 boost a day for about 800 Calories.

3. Specialist question: I didn't see any specialist first.

Hope it helps....

Take care.

Allo la la ... ;-)

Thank you for your response.

When did you do thoses tests for the ECG?

What doctor does that? The family doctor????

Is that how they determine if you are eligible or not?

Where do you get the Boost and how much it is?

All we can think for now la la hihi ;-)

BTW did you get a date for your surgery?

Thanks in advance ;-)

Cindy and Annie:smile:

My ECG was like in March by Dr Hanzel. The tread mill was only done to see if I was in good enough health to have the surgery.... The boost you can get that at any pharmacy and it cost around 10-11$ for 6. Surgery is on August 5th 2009.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
