Hello!

I had my surgery June 2nd of this year and have been feeling some soreness where my port is. Has anybody else experienced this? Or have you heard of this being common due to movement from exercise or should I contact the doctor? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I still get it if I move wrong, or the baby kicks it from the shopping cart. (He sits in the carseat type carriers). So i've been changing that too. :)

I was banded 7/2 of this year and my port hurts sometimes after intense ab workout's. I've never spoken to my surgeon about it, b/c I've always assumed it was normal. To me it makes sense - if you're working those muscles where the port is sewn to, it could be moving or trying to build additional scar tissue?? Who knows! LOL

Sometimes my left ribcage hurts when my port hurts too. I'm going to watch this thread to see if anyone has any input on this. :)

Thanks for your response. I initially thought that it was from exercise, then I noticed the incision was dimpled and that worried me. I had a family member look at it at they said it was probably because I have lost weight and that's why it looks that way. Your thoughts?

Hi RS,

I was banded on 6/24 - the first month or so I had all of my pain in the port area (for me it's on the left side under the breastbone) but I haven't had any pain since - Until the middle of August I felt pulling @ the site if I moved wrong - I was told by the nurse that it was because the port is stitched into the muscle and it pulled as it heals. Now I don't even notice the port..........How have you done with the weight loss? I've got 40 down........60 to go.........

Good luck Sharon

It's difficult for me to say. I haven't noticed an indentation at my port site or around the incision closest to my ribcage. I would recommend tracking it - it's helped me. The two times I notice pain here is when I exercise and after I've PB'd (only 2x, but that was 2x too many). Both use muscle for sure, so that's my take on it. I'm going for another fill on November 11th, so I'll ask and let you know what I find out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
