6 1/2 months and Counting....

Recommended Posts

Hi...I had my surgery on 4/28/08 in NYC. I had a very positive experience with no complications or issues. I haven't yet attended a support group because my schedule doesn't allow -- but I do feel the need to speak to other bandsters.

Most of my weight issues began about 10 years ago although I always had to battle to maintain my weight (I was 130-150 most of my life) until I had my daughter and developed thyroid issues as well. High blood pressure, high blood sugar were starting and leading me down the same path as my dad -- which ended in triple by-pass surgery for him. I saw that as my future. I have about 65 pounds to lose -- I've lost 30 since surgery.

My biggest problem now that my band is really tight -- is that I can't eat anything until dinner time. Anyone else have trouble?

Welcome to LapBandTalk!

Have you recently gotten your fill or has it been a while? Sometimes the fills loosen up, but if it's been more than a week or two and you can only eat in the evening, you may want to consider a slight unfill.

No, it's been four weeks! The first couple of days is always liquid and then soft foods -- per the doctor -- so it's hard to gauge. I've had a few rough days, for sure. I think it's getting slightly easier. I am seeing the doctor for my monthly visit -- I know I won't need a fill.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
