ya, I'm curious as to why you would have it removed?

is it because you want it gone, or because of a complication?

I had my band removed after a little over two years. I did not want to, but it had slipped and was way too tight. It was honestly too tight from the beginning and I did not follow up like I should have. I had it removed about 2 weeks ago and I am sad. I feel like I am starting over and am afraid I will regain the weight. I have a knot of scar tissue about the size of a ping pong ball, but otherwise, no problems so far.

Haven't had the band removed, I'm just going in on 11/4/08 for my banding but was curious since I went through the process quickly if it had to be removed at some point if there were any complications after the fact. Trying to make sure I'm making the right decision since the banding has only been done in this country for a couple of years. Your doing great Keep up the good work:thumbup:

Thanks for the reply, when your band slipped do they have to remove or could they have corrected the slippage and left it on?

Gotcha Bert!

I used this research tool to help me make my decision:

Bariatric Surgeon Profile - John J. Feng, M.D.

I also checked with my doctor, and he really made me feel better after saying he has been doing band surgery since 1991....that's a pretty long time!

If you need any help with interpreting my surgeon's grid, let me know...you can do a similar search on that site for the surgeon you choose

Best,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
