MellyB 0 Posted October 31, 2008 I got my pre-op packet today, and at the bottom of the first page, in bold italics it says "if you use a cpac bring it with you, you will be staying overnight". I don't have one btw, but I didn't think I was going to be spending the night, I thought I'd be home by the time my son got home from school. I'm just wondering how many spent the night. RestlessMonkey 7 Posted October 31, 2008 I didn't but most of my doc's patients do. I was supposed to but because my husband is an RN, he let me come home.
LSF 264 Posted October 31, 2008 At the support group meeting, they told us that they no longer have anyone spend the night but I will find out next week at my pre-op appointment
MustangGirlRN 0 Posted October 31, 2008 I have the option of leaving the same day, but since I scheduled my surgery for a Friday, I'm staying overnight just in case I have problems and the office is closed. I have five kids, three of them still home, and the nurse at my Dr's office says I need to stay so I won't try to do too much the first night anyway.
agreatknead 1 Posted October 31, 2008 I had my surgery in Mexico and spent one night in the surgery center. I was glad to be there, I rested nicely and flew home the next day. Take advantage of the opportunity to rest if you doc suggests it! Congrats on taking the first steps to the new you, you will be sooooo happy with the results. Shamrockgirl60 1 Posted October 31, 2008 I stayed the night and was very glad I did, I was doped up and in pain and well I would not have been happy at home. They want to monitor you to make sure you don't get sick and vomit and you get an IV of pain meds and anti nausea stuff.
travelinsnorkel 0 Posted October 31, 2008 My doc doesn't make self pay spend the night in case there is a problem, but they do make you stay there all day. I didn't leave until 7pmish. Good luck!
Rdy4ANewLife 3 Posted October 31, 2008 I have to stay the night only because Here in Arizona, it is requested by my insurance to stay one night in the hospital.
steph_co 9 Posted October 31, 2008 No, I did not stay. I left about 4 hours post-op (if not less).
tomatogirl 0 Posted October 31, 2008 I wasn't supposed to, but ended up spending the night. I'm glad I did, too.
karook54 0 Posted October 31, 2008 My dr. gave me the option and I choose to stay and I'm sooooo glad I did. That first night was very restless for me and it was nice to call the nurse every 2 hrs. for pain meds. I also was getting something for nausea through my IV. So if your dr. gives you a choice, I would strongly recommend staying overnight.
Jewels68 0 Posted October 31, 2008 My doctor does surgery in his surgery center there at the office. I was told I should be out within 4 hours.
tapshoes 2 Posted October 31, 2008 I left the clinic 3 hours after surgery. No reason to stay; I could sit in the car for the 3 hour drive home just as well as lay in a bed. My doc - no one stays UNLESS there is some additional surgery done (eg hernia repair) or some unexpected event. Otherwise, once awake, out you go!
aubrie 6 Posted October 31, 2008 My insurance says I can stay 23 hours......I did. I checked in at 10:00 in the morning, and checked out next day at 9:00 AM.
