Hello everyone,

I am just curious when you are in the hospital, do you have to wear the hospital gown after surgery or can you wear your own?

Thanks.

I was able to wear either my own or the hospital gown.

I did bring my own, but I had no energy to get out of bed and get changed, it was just to much hard work.

So luckily I had my mum to help me get changed when we left the hospital.

You can bring your own. Unlike Ange, I had plenty energy, but I didn't want blood or something ruining one of mine, and they had a nice big one that "fit" and closed in the back. I dressed within about an hour of "coming to" anyway, in real clothes.

It can be a bit of a pain to change gowns because of the IV...but you can wear your own if you really want to!

I didn't care if I was naked, as long as I had pain meds. lol!! Seriously though, I wore the hospital gown until the next morn. I put the same clothes I wore to the hosp. back on for the ride home. (less to pack)

Good luck w/ your surgery

I didn't stay over night, but from prior surgeries I would have stayed in the hospital gowns. IF you are given one not big enough, tell them you need a bigger one. They actually gave me one way to big for me, so they brought me a smaller one. ( I was at 240 the morning of my surgery). The one they brought for me would have fit a 400 pound person. You don't want to ruin your gowns. And why make more laundry for yourself? You won't want to do laundry for a few days. I waited nearly a week to physically do the laundry. My boys loaded and unloaded. I just did the soaps and softner.

I loved the hospital gown, sounds funny but it was a massive blue thing that tied up at the side & going to the toilet etc was easy as I didnt have to bend down to pull down clothes etc.

I also awoke after surgery in the gown obviously but I did have blood stains on it around the stomach area & im glad I didn't wear my own.

Basically because I had a hernia repaired in surgery I just had no energy, it was so painfull to move & the thought of having to get up and get dressed was like...forget it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
