Will I have to get my rings cut off??

Recommended Posts

I could really use some help - my wedding rings are too tight to remove.

Just had my pre-admission testing for my surgery next week - they told me the surgery will be canceled if I cannot get my rings off!

Any suggestions on how to get my wedding rings off without cutting them!!

THANKS!!:)

Try putting your hand in ice Water for several minutes (I know BRRRRRRR) this may help. You can also try holding your hand up over your head for several minutes. The suggestions from luluc should also help!

Good luck!

The lady at the jewelry store sprayed my finger and ring with windex and voila! it came off. She said they use it all the time when customers try on "too small" rings.

Also talk to your doctor -- They told me no jewlery but then they just put tape on the rings so they did not fall off during the procedures.

What PreAdmission Tells you is not the same as the doctor or the actual surgery department.

Sometimes it is a safety issue. When you have surgery, they may use a cautery machine and if you are wearing anything metallic it can cause a spark to jump from the surgery site to other areas on the body.

I had my surgery in August and I was unable to get my wedding ring off. All they did was taped it. Check with your surgeon, let him know that you can't remove it and see what he says.

Mine said that wedding rings are the only jewelry allowed.

You do not have to cut them off.During the surgery they can be taped down.I never heard of canceling surgery because jewelry could not be removed.

I'll second the Windex, sounds crazy but it works! There's also a technique of wrapping the finger that we used at the hospital that gets the ring right off, difficult to describe here but I bet your nurses will know how to do it.

You shouldn't worry about having to get them cut off. It doesn't hurt, and it's easy for a jeweler to repair them. You're going to need to get them resized anyway after you've lost all of your weight.

Best wishes.

Sue

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
