Problem with diarrhea

Recommended Posts

I had my placement on Oct 22, at Kaiser, it seems from reading others their progarm is a little different, They do not want you dinking protien shakes. Stage 1 is Clear Liquids 1-3 days, then Full liquids, pudding, ceam of wheat, strained Soup etc, 2-3 weeks, then you start pureed protien, 2-3 weeks, then soft food, then regular diet, 5 stages. I am on stage 2.

I have lost 15 pounds so far. Today was the first day I had not lost 1-2 pounds. I am feeling good been walking up to 2 miles at a time. Played 18 holes of golf yesterday, got a little tired but felt ok this morning. My problem has been 1-4 diarrhea events a day. Anyone else having problems with diarrhea?

Wow - eight days since surgery and you're playing golf! My surgery is next week - I'd love to hear about your experience right after the surgery. Good luck to you!

Hi Rob! I had my surgery on Sept 10th and I had diarrhea off and on for about 2 weeks. I called my doctor to see if there was something I could do about it and they said to just be carefull with what I eat and that it should stop as my insides adjust to my band. If it doesnt stop, I would recommend calling your doctor to see what he says. Good luck! Diarrhea is SO not fun!

Rob,

I started with the frequent diarrhea (not just loose) about 3 days after surgery (which was 20 Aug 08). At first, we thought that I had developed lactose intolerance post-op and or drinking too much Water. I am not convinced those are causing the problem--I drink much less Water than before and don't do milk anymore and still have a serious problem. I suspected the ingredients in sugar-free popsicles and Splenda (although I have eaten them for years with no problems) but I quite eating them and still have the problem. My Dr seems to think that it will correct itself...I am not convinced of that either. Good luck, try some Lactaid that helps a little.

I also had my surgery at Kaiser and had the same food plan you described. I had diarrhea a couple of times a day for the first couple of weeks and then the opposite started happening. My doctor said the diarrhea comes from all the fluids during surgery and the stress your body has gone through. I wasn't allowed Protein Drinks either.

I cam home got on the tread mill for 25 min, took a nap, back on the tread mill walking slowly for another 25 min. I have been walking one - two miles a day. I have had very little pain. I think the walkng really helps with that. Getting the gas out of your system is the hardest part. I really feel good I had the guts to do this for me and my family. You should as well... Best wishes

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
