The thought of food-Yuck!

Recommended Posts

I had my third fill about 10 days ago and the thought of food is a big turn-off. I felt the some way after the second fill. Even my coffee makes me want to gag and I'm only a person after adding coffee in the am. I wish I knew what to do about this. I know it sounds weird to be worried about my lack of appetite but it is bad and taking medicine is a problem. I guess this is all in my head and last time it got better after a while but I hate it !

I feel the same way you do.

Thought I was the only one that felt this way.

I am constantly turned off by food since my 3rd and 4th fill.

I just look at food and am not interested in it.

Since the lap band it feels different to eat and I just don't look at food the same way.

I hardly eat but do get plenty of fluids down.

Trying to remember to take a multi Vitamin every day is hard but will have to make a better attempt in doing so because I know I am not getting enough nutrients.

So to anser your question, yes I find food a turn off now.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way as well. I've tried to explain this to my nurse but she didn't quite understand what I am going through with this. food just isn't the same and I have little to no interest in it. I do eat because I need to have something, but it definitely isn't enjoyable.

Wow, I have SO not reached this point (I really wish that I would reach it soon). Are you happy about it? Or are you mourning food all over again like at the very beginning?

I was banded on 8/29/08, I am down 32 pounds!!! Yippee!!!!

But I am also experiencing my disgust with food. I have had 3 fills and am up to 5.5 ccs in my 10cc band. I have add a few stuck episodes with bread sooooooooooo I have banned bread. I am not even going to do that to my self again. I thought I was going to DIE!!! But I think that has helped me in the long run. I must say that it's kind of hard to come to grips with the fact that I have to find something else to do with my time and not think about food in the same way I used too before. I know it will be all worth it in the long run. I haven't started exercising just yet which I am going to start this weekend so then I know that will help keep me occupied as well.:)

Slin-N-Tn - to answer your question, yes I am for the most part happy that food doesn't interest me like it used to.

The only time it bothers me is when we are out socializing and I can't eat with people like I used to.

I usually eat something before going out and I always make sure not to drink anything while I am eating. I wait 1 hour after eating to drink.

It is amazing how little food we actually need to survive.

I used to love to eat and found it comforting. It would take a lot for me to feel full and I over ate.

Now I just have a few bites of something and I am satisfied.

It takes the mind a lot longer to catch up and get used to the new way of eating.

Flipman416 - Congratulations and your weight loss. Keep up the good work. Just make sure you start exercising because it is very important and you will have more energy and firm up.

I am always opening the kitchen cabinets and fridge trying to figure out what to eat. It is hard now because when I look at food I usually just walk away not interested and have trouble making my mind up.

I would never want to go back to my old ways of eating but having the band does take time to get used to. It hasn't been an easy process but does get easier as time passes.

I was banded February 2008 and am down 100 pounds.

I have another 25 more pounds to go. It feels good to be so close to my goal. :)

I just got my 2nd fill and feel like this as well.... Although even right after surgery food just didn't taste good to me. I thought it was due to the meds etc at first. I have spouts of "head hunger" where I feel like I am craving something but 1 bite an I am over it. It never tastes as good as it did before surgery. And I do the same thing-- look in the fridge/cupboard for something to make or eat becuase I have to- not because I want to. And nothing really sounds good. And I know that it probably won't taste that great. I have only had a couple things that I really thought were worth eating. Spinach (which was a suprise), roasted squash, asparagus all taste great. Had a little piece of grilled steak and that was really good as well. But it took me a long time to eat it--well worth it though.

Hoping that with the restriction I know have and complete disinterst in food that my loss will start to increase.

I like how you describe your situation with "head hunger".

I can totally relate. I couldn't describe what I was feeling but will do so by using the words "head hunger".

My mind is always playing tricks on me with food.

I wish the doctors could do something with the brain because it doesn't match up to my new stomach. :cool2:

My brain still wants to do things the old way and my stomach says no way to that!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
