Need Help Getting Ready

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new here. So much information. I was just wondering if there are any special items you need for when you first have the surgery. (What type of Protein Shakes, shake cups, containers, etc., ) Any suggestions?

Want to be totally prepared. :)

The shakes recommended by my doctor are Isopure perfect low carb and it comes in vanilla and chocolate, and other fruit flavors. I like van and choc. You can get these on Vitaminshoppe.com for 35.99 each. Elsewhere is much more expensive. I was sent home from the hospital with about 20 of the little 1 oz plastic containers to measure out my shakes. Brin chapstick to hospital because your lips will be dry and also bring a pillow for the ride home. The seatbelt will bother you.

Everything will be fine. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago. I lost 12 lbs and feel almost back to normal. The place where my port is sore because its in a spot where I bend, but its healing. You will be fine. Good luck!

I know what you mean. My surgery is 5 weeks away from today and I am anxious and feel like I am trying to get all the information I can. The thing I don't get the information specifically from my doctor until a few more weeks. I know what Protein Shakes I am supposed to start on Nov 20 and that is the Isopure but other than that I am trying to absorb as much as I can from this site and a couple others.

You are not alone in trying to get ready. Hang in there, time will pass quickly.

Hi, me again, how do you get the weight loss tracker? I think they are so cute. Not to mention very encouraging.

If you look toward the bottom of the screen, you will get the link to paste and that makes the ticker come up.

Sorry I did not state it correctly.

Nina

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
