fills and if they are covered

Recommended Posts

Can anyone who has had a band on for awhile tell me how many fills approximately you have per year, what they cost and does your insurance normally cover the cost?

Thanks:tongue:

According to my insurance (United Healthcare HMO) they are covered as a normal office co-pay.

I have BCBS and all of mine have been covered under follow -up, not even having to pay office co-pay. They bill the insurance 250. for each one. I am 10months out, have had 6/7 fills. about every 5weeks.:)

I have Blue Shield and fills are part of my doctor visit, so I have a Co-pay of $15.00, which covers the visit and the fill.:)

I heard it was an average of 5-8 fills before you hit your "sweet spot". But the number of fills you get varies with each person. It depends on how much fat is around your stomach when they put the band on..as the fat goes away, the band gets looser which is fixed with a fill. I know a few people who only had to have 3 or 4 fills. I have only had 1 fill sofar and my insurance was billed. Once you hit your "sweet spot" you wont have to get anymore fills (or shouldnt have to anyway..unless you want to..)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
