Taking Large Capsules

Recommended Posts

My doctor ordered all these meds he wants me to take - polysacharride Iron - and Osteo Enhance - they come in huge capsules - I am only 8 days post op - and today is my birthday - I don't want to throw up.

Can you take these pills? does the capsule dissolve. They came from a place that gives Vitamins specifically for people like me - and the doctor recommends this place to get your Vitamins from - what do I do?

Is it the kind of capsule you can break open? I have to take prescrip Prilosec and it comes in a big capsule and I was literally *crying* each time I had to take it because it would get stuck. Now I crack that bad boy open, dump it on top of my liquid vitamins and it's ALL kinds of good.

Well, the Calcium tasted like dirt - but wasn't bitter - I think I'll put that in my Protein each morning. I'm really worried about the Iron. I don't want to open it up - it probably tastes nasty - has anyone tried it before?

Happy BD, btw.

Okay, call your doc, an talk to her/him about this pills.

When I have to take gelitan covered pills, I will sit with that pill in my mouth with liquid until it is beginning to get mushy. It works for me, hope it works for you

The office said ok - the Vitamin supplier said one month. I think I'm going to go with whole. Is there chewable calcium citrate?

I just downed my first capsule. So far I haven't really felt that *feeling* that those individuals get when they start to eat food. I'm sitting here, I can feel it in there. I'll try the mushy thing next time - cuz I don't like how this feels.

I have a question; I'm having surgery on July 26th and currently taking Vitamin supplements to prepare. In addition to a Multi-Vitamin, I'm taking 150mg of Iron with Vitamin C. I feel a weird ache in my stomach seems to come and go, but mostly is persistant. I don't know if it's related to the Vitamin regimen but thought I'd ask if anyone else experienced the pain.

This is my first post; so I hope I'm doing it right..........

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
