i was banded on a friday 10/24 ... i took off friday, saturday, sunday, monday and was well enough to go back to work on tuesday but had enough vacation time i decided to stay home on tuesday. came back to work late on wed. but i also sit behind a computer majority of my time here at work...

it all depends on how your surgery goes, mine went well with no complications :-)

I took off 2 full weeks. I had only expected to take off 1 week but I always have a hard time just recovering from the anesthesia. Plus I live in NYC so I have to walk and climb stairs EVERYWHERE so I just wasn't up to getting around yet. But when I did come back to work I felt really good and I was glad that I didn't look sick and helpless because I told everyone I was getting an cycst removed from my ovary and they were all really nice to me and didn't treat me like an invalid, but helped out when I needed it. Like picking up something I dropped on the floor (because bending over will be death!) and lift anything heavier than my water bottle. I did not want to risk a flipped port or tear any stitches.

I was banded on 10/22, off Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun and returned to half a day Mon/Tues. I'm back at a full day today Wendsday and just trying to take it easy. Pace yourself and don't over do it. Don't lift anything heavy and just make sure that you get up and take a few steps and stretch every so often. Good Luck!!!!:)

Hi Bert,

No problem for me. I had my banding on a Wed and went back to work on Monday. A little difficult with stairs but that was it. Be sure to wear your band for at least a week really two it helps support the stomach area really well. I cound not have slept without it. It was actually much easier than I had anticipated. Don't do allot of anesthesia. We were able to give ourselves the little shot button you know...Don't do it unless you have to. It will make you sick. Good advice I got from my banders and it paid off. I listened to people sick all night. But I didn't...Whew... Not fun. Good Luck, take care and keep us posted.

:thumbup:Hi Martxlardy,

Thanks for the response, What band are you talking about wearing after surgery, my doc did not tell me anything about that. I'm glad to hear from someone who is close to my age and their recovery time. If you don't mind me asking were you pretty fit before the surgery and how much did you have to lose? I am very active and workout regularly my current weight is 262 and I'm 5'7' hoping to lose 70lbs I'm 52.

If I knew how to post this on my sight I wouldn't have to write it every time still working on figuring out how to do that.

Hi Bret,

I like a gurdle. It's streach like and has velcro. Kind of like a kidney belt if you have ever wore one of those. Motorcycle riders do. Really helpful.:) I am active but not a work out person. I bought a treadmill just before surgery and use it. I have lost 26lbs in 6wks and have another 70lbs to

go. :)

As far as figuring out how to do that stuff... Me too... I don't know how and it's soooo cute. I want to learn also so if you find out how to do the little tracking thing please let me know. :)

I had my surgery on a Thursday, since I have a desk job, planned to go back to work on the Monday (3 days), but when I woke up on Monday I decided to call in. I did go back on Tuesday, stayed for 6 hours but should have left earlier. It took til the end of the week before I actually made it thru the whole day.

I was banded 10/16 (a thursday), by Monday I was able to go to school for a couple hours, but that was about it. Even sitting at the desk made me tired and lugging books around made me sore. But everyday I was feeling a lot better, so I would say take a full week off if you can because you and your body need time to heal. Even if you feel great, your body still needs time!

Hello,

I was banded on 9/26 and the doc gave me two weeks off. You need to take time and let the incisions heal and adjust to the food process. Good Luck!

I originally planned only 7 days off, I went back to work, felt sick, dizzy and nauseous and decided to go home.

I ended up having 2 weeks off work.

I have 2 more weeks until I see my surgeon again. That means I am off from work for 6 weeks so far. I'm sure I"ll go back day after my 2nd follow up. The reason I'm off this long is because I can't lift over 20lbs for 6 weeks..I lift heavy at work..

I'm a little worried about this too. I'm a teacher and teach 6 year olds so I do lots of bending over their small tables etc. I'm expecting to take 2 weeks. Do you think with my job that will be enough time?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
