2nd Fill & Not Sure What's Happening!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Need a little help from fellow bandsters.

When I had my first fill (4ml in a 10ml band) the only time I could feel restriction was when I ate things like bread rolls & things that would turn pretty much to dough.

I had my second fill a week ago & things are definitely different.

I now have 6mls in a 10ml band.

I have trouble eating fruits like Mango, Peaches, banana and also things like Scrambled eggs & bread.

However I can still eat things like meat, Pasta, Rice etc.

I chew everything very well but I dont understand how mushy things are a problem and things like meat are no problem?

I'm having to eat alot slower because food is getting stuck easily which I am coping with fine, but im also not getting a "full" feeling more just that things are getting stuck ALL THE TIME! Luckily the food goes down and I dont end up throwing up.

I need help, I feel like I have great restriction but no "full" feeling pretty much because it's taking me soooo long to eat anything.

Everyone is different as to what they have trouble eating. As long as you can eat solid foods, I wouldn't worry too much about the specifics. A lot of people have trouble w/ scrambled eggs -- it's just a texture thing -- they can be kind of rubbery. Adding a little bit of cheese can help.

If you are getting stuck a lot, you may need a little bit of an unfill. My doc says you should be able to eat a meal in 20-30 minutes and be satisfied. If you can't do that, ask your doctor if he/she thinks you would be better off with an unfill.

My dr makes us do the 2 day liquid and 2 day soft foods then back to the regular stuff. Rice was a no-no altogether. even now after 10 months I notice the different feeling when I attempt rice. The brown rice and rfried rice does do a little better. We were just told to stay away from the "white stuff", the rice and the Pasta. It turns to sugar and forms dough in the tummy. It is a good thing the stores offer more of the Whole wheat stuff now. Those items are still on the bottom of the list, they jus don't work well with the band and me. Every one is different, once we remember that we must chew everything till it is a liquid, every thing goes down much better and without any stuck feelings. Sometimes I feel likeI eat too much, but the serving size is right and normally I feel "full" now instad of that tight in your throat feeling. I have 6.5 in a 10 cc band. The fruit is only an issue if it tends to slide down before I can chew it real good. I think meat we just know to chew much longer before attempting to swallow. good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
