What happens if you've had your fills and you get the stomach flu and you have to throw up - how does it come up through the band? Because the flu will be in the lower stomach (and probably pouch, too). Has this happened to anyone?

I am interested also. I recently started taking this natural bacteria pill to try to ward any flu bug off.

I haven't experienced this yet, but my friend who has been banded for over a year got terrible food poisoning not too long ago.

All they did was remove Fluid from her band until she felt better and then she got filled again.

That is a relief to hear that. I could just imagine the band slipping before you could do anything.

Hey Cleo's Mom - I was instructed in our support group and classes that a person with a lapband should go to the er or doctors office to have the band unfilled so that it will not cause any damage when throwing up.

My doctor told me to call him right away if I think I am getting the flu and he will get me anti nausea meds and if that didn't work, he would have to do an unfill.

Yeah, I'd love to drive for an hour and a half for an un-fill if I'm sick with the flu!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too! Usually it's coming out top and bottom if you know what I mean. :) sorry, but it is what it is. :)

funny to see this thread this morning, as i'm down w/the flu.

i got a flu shot monday morning, and by yesterday morning i felt very naseaus. called my dr and he called my pharmacy for anti nausea meds. they appear to have worked, not hungry at all - at this point see no reason for an unfill...

My doctor gave me nausea meds post op to have on hand if I ever need to take them. I would suggest asking for meds first, then if that doesn't relieve nausea and your vomiting, I would call for an unfill. Stick to liquids only, that way your stomach will stay on the empty side!!!

I've got it too. But my flu shot was a week ago today. :)

No nausea meds, and no fill yet, as I'm only 6 weeks post op.

Gosh what an awful thought, I can't imagine how painful it would be to throw up with the band, I was about to throw out the liquid phenergan they gave me after surgery but I think I'll keep it around just in case.

btw, Just an fyi for those who are ill after your flu shot, the flu shot is for the respiratory flu, what most people call the stomach flu isn't actually flu, it's another virus that affects the digestive system or sometimes food poisoning.

oh if it only kept the gurgglin' of the tummy & trips to the loo at bay.

i have never gotten a flu shot & never will. hadn't been sick in yrs....this has really put me out & the anti naseau meds have held back any puking thankfully, but can say the same on the reverse end....:w00t:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
