Scuba Diving

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if you can scuba dive when you have a lap band?! I'm really interested in getting banded, but LOVE to scuba dive (even if it's embarrassing to be squeezed into a wet suit)

Yup, even scuba diving is allowed once you've recovered from surgery...typically about 4 weeks.

Wouldn't it be hard to keep a suit that fits you? They are kinda spendy and losing weight so fast would be hard.

Yeah it wouldn't fit long, but I'm wanting to find one so I can use my pool for a few more weeks and so I can start using it a few weeks sooner in the spring. I figure it wouldn't last me beyond that but if it could get me that much more pool exercise it would be worth it.

Hey Ladies.

I just got a Mens XL long at my local scuba shop - it was tight, but there was up to XXL in size. I weighed around 265lbs

I wondered about mens suits but I was afraid they'd be too big in the shoulders, have you had trouble with that? Maybe I'll swallow my pride and go to a dive shop and look, I can just imagine what they will think when they see my badonkadonk coming into the store! But then on the other hand, shopping online would probably not turn out so well since I'd have no idea what size to buy.

Well you weight 243, and I weigh 265 so that extra 20 lbs (as you know) makes all the difference. I'll admit the suit wasn't the best fit, but the experience is TOTALLY worth it. I did it, looked like a fool i'm sure, but once in the Water it's amazing!!! Worth the time, effort, and embarrassment.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
