Oh my! I just finished vacuuming for the past hour. The first half or so was just dusting, and I have central vacuum so I'm not lugging around a vacuum cleaner, just the hose. But the second half hour was all carpets, bending, all kinds of stuff. I'm six days post-op. My incisions seem to be okay from the workout, but I'm really tired! Did I start housework too soon? I thought some activity might help ease the gas pain in my shoulder that is really almost gone now, and vacuuming without lugging a vac cleaner shouldn't be that stressful, right? Did your doctors give you any idea about how long you should wait to vacuum and do housework? My husband would have actually been glad to do it for me, I just wanted to do something active. Whew!

My doc says if it hurts, don't do it. So you may be alright. Just be careful.

For me, I wasn't able to vacuum for a few weeks. I didn't do any stooping for laundry, either.

You are a really strong woman!

Congrats on being banded!

IMHO it is ALWAYS too soon to vacuum. LOL As long as you didn't lift over 15 pounds and just stretched etc, you're probably good to go! Of course you're tired; you had surgery just a few days ago etc. But you are right, the exercise is undoubtedly good for you!

Thanks...I actually feel pretty good, considering that I honestly don't like vacuuming either, but it still has to be done. At any rate, my shoulder feels better, I don't really hurt anywhere, and I feel like I've had some good exercise. But I think I'll take it easy for a while.

I just listened to my body to decide what I could and could not handle. I was out mowing pasture and moving irrigation pipe about 5 days out. No problems.

I guess I am grateful to my doctor who said no vacuuming or sweeping for 4 weeks. I took him at his word and didn't do any of those. ;-p I made sure to show the paper to my family so that when I sat on my butt for a month, I had a doctor's excuse. lol

Take it easy for awhile.

I know you probably want to get things done around the house but the house can wait, you healing cant!

Your body is your temple!

I too believe my body is my temple, thanks for the reminder! That is the whole reason for this, isn't it? To strengthen and heal the temple. I always appreciate these reminders; it's so easy to forget!

My doctor said that I should never do housework again.... or.... that might have just been a dream. I agree that it is good for you to be up and moving - just don't overdo it. A nice bubble bath is always good after a very vigorous vacuuming. Take good care of yourself and keep smiling!! Becky

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
