Kinda down--venting

Recommended Posts

Okay, I know it's kinda soon for me to start feeling down, however, whenever I dieted in the past, I was always a pretty good loser when I stuck with it. I just couldn't keep it off. I did not do a preop diet so from surgery on the 6th to date, I have lost 10 pounds. I know I should be grateful for that, but, I was only on broth and popsicles. Now that I have started mushies and I have begun to exercise, things have slowed, and, a couple of days I have gained. It kinda got me down because I have such a bad history with weight loss I guess I am kinda scared that after everything I have done to get the surgery and all, that it is not going to work for me after all. That I will have to slink away from the forums because of failure. I don't get all of my Protein Shakes in, I know this but could this be slowing my weight loss down?? I don't know, I guess I am just venting, but, I tried on a pair of old maternity pants, and they still fit (I didn't mean to, I just kinda grabbed something but still--my baby is 3 for goodness sake). I guess I have to be patient but not being able to eat real food yet, doing all of this exercise and still it seems that I am getting nowhere fast. Hopefully in a couple of months I will be able to look back on this post and think, poor kid, crying for nothing.

Don't weigh yourself everyday! Stay off the scales! I felt the same way and even though the weigh loss was slow I was losing inches like crazy! Give your body time to adjust. I was discouraged also but it has been two and a half months since my surgery and I am now very happy with the band. Hang in there. Give it some time and remember it's just a tool! Good Luck!

Hang in there and have faith. We have all felt that feeling at about 2-3 weeks out and it is normal. Most people experience a slight regain or plateau at that time. There are many different explanations for this and I can't say for sure which is right (something from all of them?) but it doesn't matter. It is enough to know that you are not alone and that your losses WILL start to happen again, slowly.

I think, in spite of what we tell ourselves in our heads, we all come out of the surgery with the secret hope that we will wake up and the weight will have just fallen off. It doesn't work that way. However, it DOES work in that the weight will slowly and steadily trickle away and the pounds will add up over time. You just have to be patient and stick to the game plan.

None of us have come to this surgery without having tried and failed at many diets before. We all know the secret fear of "what if this doesn't work for me, like all the other things I've tried?" Have faith that, if you work with the band and don't sabotage yourself, it WILL work and those pounds can be gone forever.

First of all CONGRATULATIONS - 10lbs is 10lbs and unfortunately we ladies do have cycles (whether we like it or not) during which our bodies retain Fluid (I can put on half a stone the week leading up to a period) plus you are still in recovery mode.

I am a long way out and have recently gone back to basics so I am also on fluids (bring on the mushies next week) as this is the way I kick start my banding diet if I have been "naughty" for a length of time. It always works and I know I will lose weight as long as my head stays in the right place (!!???) Back to my earlier days, and as a tip for when you plateau, it is essential you get your Proteins and fluids in and just a bit of an alteration to your diet can get the weight shifting again.

You also state you are exercising which means you are probably building a bit of muscle - they weigh heavier than fat so another tip is to measure yourself (once a month) as if the weight isn't shifting the inches will be - trust me- I don't lie!!!

It is a wonderful journey you have chosen but remember the band is there to help you (and it will) but you first and foremost have to help yourself and make the right food choices.....not easy if you are an emotion-led eater, but it can and has been done.

I started my liquid diet 3 weeks ago tomorrow and have lost 19lbs so am well happy. It is my fault I am not down to goal but I still strive to get there and hopefully will on this occasion. Good luck and keep up the hard work

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
