I just was approved and have been thinking about getting things at home prepared for when I come home from my surgery.

During the pureed food part of the after surgery diet, would it be okay to eat the really runny baby food? Or even just baby food in general? I'm thinking since I'm a college student, it'd be easy to whip out a jar of baby food and eat some while in class.

Has anyone done this and found it to be okay?

I planned on asking my doctor/nutritionist but figured I'd ask here.

My nutritionist said I could (according to post-op stages). I never did though, I had a hard enough time feeding it to my baby when she was little. It is a mental thing with me...LOL!

Absolutely, it is ok. I didi the Gerber Organic Stage 2 foods. I am almost 7 weeks post op and every once in a while, I still have one. They are definitely nutritious, and especially if you are going somewhere and don't want to lug containers around, this just fits in your purse.

Those that have already hit that stage can give you better information. My nutritionist and my informational book with the eating stages say that stage 1 & stage 2 baby foods are okay to eat............

Good luck - I considered all sides and did tons of research and talking to others. I went in knowing the ups and downs and am ready for my journey!

I used them, especially the #2 ones that are like a meal.. Spaghetti with meat sauce and such. With a little salt added it didn't taste too bad. And when I move on the the soft foods, the #3 lasagna was great. A little salt added and a side of cottage cheese made a nice tasting meal.... Wouldn't want to do it forever, but after liquids for 3 weeks it was a nice change.

I couldn't bring Myself to

Buy the meat, but I was thinking of

Picking up some fruit and veggies. My dr said it's a waste of money, when you can just purée your own food. In my opinion, watching myself

Makeit into mush makes me queezy! So I think the baby food is a

Good idea. I never realized that I may be still feeling icky 15 days out. So anything that helps with nausea is awesome.

As a person that tried to puree my own food, buy the baby food. Actually seeing it being pureed did something to me. I know it was mental, but even now that I am back on regular food, I can't bring myself to even eat the food that I tried to puree (i.e. bean soup).

I just couldn't eat the baby food, but I did buy the little Gerber juices. No sugar added and they are just the right size. Pear is my favorite. Becky

Ugh, I wouldnt even have fed my babies that stuff, let alone at it myself. Even the smell of baby food makes me gag.

Seriously though, it's not going to hurt you, but its awfully bland and tasteless! And really, part of losing weight and keeping it off for life is learning to cook for yourself - healthy meals, not packaged stuff. Mushies really isnt hard - for example, once youre on mushie food, skinned Tomato, skinned cucumber, avocado and chickpeas with a can of flavoured tuna is a great mushy meal -and how hard is that to do? Much more tasty too.

Make up a good Soup with meat and vegetables in it, puree and freeze in smaller portions.

You'll enjoy it a lot more and be able to get through it a lot easier without trying to live off tasteless foods.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
