LBL; Breast Lift/Reduction - 10/30/08- yippee! yikes!

Recommended Posts

Hi all- as background I've been MIA for awhile; whenever I struggle, instead of posting and reading more, I find I go away from this site which is insane because this site has been such a great resource for me.

Surgery was in 5/07. From my heaviest weight I'm down close to 150 lbs; some of that was preop weight loss. I really have plateaued and my weight hasn't budged much so I got a consult this summer with the famous Dr J Lo

I was amazed that he told me that my weight was ok where it was- I think we all have a screwed up mental image of what we are like. Shortly after this, I had band problems and had a total unfill. My weight jumped up 10 lbs but then plateaued again and so I kept my surgery date which is coming up this thursday! I'll be all nice and bandaged for halloween!

I'm having a lower body lift and a breast lift/reduction. Reading other's stories has been of tremendous help for me in preparing for this surgery so I hope that my journey through this will help others as well.

any advice or suggestions you flatlands chicks (and guys) might have would be greatly appreciated!

I will take photos but I'm shy so it may be a while before yall see them

Thank you both! I went to Target today to stock up on stuff I'll likely need post surgery; wedges are coming from makemeheal.com; have my compression garmets and rented a lift chair.

I am living with my parents for a couple of weeks post surgery. My mom is being supportive; my dad not so much. He can't understand why I'm spending a car's worth of money on "cosmetic" surgery. Staying with them for 2 weeks will be a great motivator to recover

Wonderful news McGreen (well maybe not the dad being unsupportive - but just you wait, he will come around).

I am so impressed that you got the famous Dr. J Lo. I used to be such a fan of Big Medicine. I am sure you are going to get phenomenal results with him.

Good luck - only a few more sleeps!!!!!!!

It's been two weeks since I had a breast lift and Tummy Tuck. You will be so glad you did it. My lap band surgery was March '06. I've lost almost 100lbs. Good luck!

Good luck! I bet you will be very happy. It really isn't too bad - mostly uncomfortable not horrible pain. Keep us updated on your progress.

Thanks for your support everyone

I have to say I'm seriously freaked out. Other than my band surgery, I really haven't had surgery, broken bones etc and am worried about how I"ll tolerate the pain. I'm a WIMP. Add in my parents are older and really can't help me much post surgery, I'm a nervous wreck.

It will be ok, I know it will sort itself out- it's just the unkown that's freaking me out. That and the what - if's.

For me at least the pain was less than the band and much less than a broken bone. I also had my port removed and a hernia repair this time. Still, I was expecting much more pain. To me by far the worst part of this surgery has been the tiredness, the long recovery and the GROSS, annoying drains. That said the day after surgery I was almost giddy with the fact that I felt so good (considering).

I was in the same situation - stayed with my parents and and they are older. I was also really worried aobut how much help I would need. But, it turned out ok - I could basically get out of bed myself after 2 days in the hospital. My mom would assist when I was changing bandages and drains and taking a shower but mostly to hand me things and make sure I didn't pass out.

YOu will be ok but I totally get the worry.

That really sucks! Mine started the morning of my lap band surgery. That was uncomfortable, I feel so bad for you to have to deal with the period the first week of your PS surgery.

To add to my fun, just got my period. woo.

That happened to me too. Don't worry there is so much dripping out of you after the surgery that your period is the least of your problems.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
