Esophageal spasms???

Recommended Posts

Hello.....does anyone have problems with your esophagus having spasms everytime you get a fill or try to eat? I know most say this is a sign of the band being too tight but that is not my problem. With every fill I have had and i am at 7cc in a 10cc band this happens. It also happens when I eat sometimes and causes severe burping?? Anyone been down this road?

Yes I had these from two days post op for 1&1/2 weeks. They are terrible and I got these attacks usually in the late afternoon. It was not dependent upon eating, I even got them o an empty tummy. My only relief was to lay down for an hour or two. the pain would subside as soon as I layed down, but I had to stay there to keep the pain from re-occuring. It was usually accompanied with a PB of just saliva. It finally went away and has not returned in the last month or so since they stoped. I got my first fill this past monday on 10/20, I was concerned that it would return, but it hasn't. PRAISE GOD! It was so painfull. Now I still have trouble with food getting stuck, but that is a different pain. But I think some people might get the two mixed up if they have never had the spasms, they might be confused that the stuck feeling could be spasms NOT! ;)

So what do the two feel like? My story is I had to have surgery to fix my port device. At that point I was already filled 6cc's. That was about 2mths ago. 2 days ago I got 1cc more put in and since then I have these wicked esophageal spasms that are so painful..well, atleast I am assuming that is what it is...so I guess from your comment I'm wondering what is the difference? I just had some Soup, mostly liquid with mashed potatoes in it, so it is really liquidy...and I am in the worst pain, been burping foam and vomitting what seems almost like mucus (sorry so graphic)...will I be like this all the time?? I NEVER had this issue after surgery or after my 1 fill. I hope not cause it is really painfull!!! The pain is in my solopex and goes up to my throat and even with vomitting there is no relief..so am I stuck or is it the spasm or am I to tight?? Oh god I hope I am not to tight cause it takes ALOT of effort and pain to get these fills, he always has a hard time finding my port.

I had these daily BEFORE the surgery. Turns out, I had a hiatal (sp?) hernia that the dr. repaired while he was in there. I used to take 2 Pepcid Completes daily, a.m. & p.m., religiously. Now I haven't taken one since. Maybe try the Pepcid and see if it makes a difference.

I had these so bad one day that I ended up in the ER and I am not even banded yet. See more at my post about that day:

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
