hi i recently consulted with a bariatric surgeon regarding my weight issues and he went over the options with me. Now the surgery that appealed to me was the lap band because it seems less traumatic to the body and according to the surgeon the recovery time is faster than rny. if someone could please share their experience i would really appreciate it. im having second thoughs because i can't imagine something foreing inside of my body. I wonder if the speedy recovery time is true. the surgeon also told me that this is longterm and that there is really not much studies of this device for long term use. im just concern about the adverse effects over time.

Hi, I can 't help you out with the long term questions, but I can let you know this. I was banded last Wednesday 6/29. I feel fine. I am at work today. The only real pain that I experienced were the gas pains in my shoulder. That has pretty much gone away. My incisions are and were not in any pain. I wasn't able to move in and out of bed to easy the first couple of days. That pain is already forgotton. I made this choice because I didn't feel it was neccessary(sp) to cut and re-route my insides to lose weight. The choice is yours and this was the right one for me.

For me, the envasive nature of the other options amde this MY only option. I was banded last week and have been up and walking around since day one. This is completely reversable, which also appealed to me. It has been used in Europe for about 10 years with reduced side effects over the other surgeries and reduced side effects with the newer bands over the ones they originally used.

There is a TON of great information on this site - every subject that you could imagine and tons that I am sure you couldn't imagine. start reading through old threads, ask any questions - the support here has been great. By the time that I went in for my first appointment, I already had so many of my questions answered from lurking here.

Good luck and I know you will make the right decision for you!

I had the same fear of an odd object inside my body. It's weird, but what is weirder: Having a band around your belly, or having them cut your stomach up sew your intestines together? You get used to it, and if it really freaks you out, at least they can remove it.

Feel free to read my blogspot: I've posted my journey there: http://jaymelynn.blogspot.com

Don't worry about the foreign objects - what if you needed a pacemaker? You'd get one. What if you needed a knee or hip replacement? You'd get one. What if you got the RNY? You'd have tons of little staples inside your body - those are foreign too.

I was banded on 6/23 (two weeks ago tomorrow!!!) and I feel fantastic. I went swimming with my kids yesterday and we all went for a 45 minute walk tonight. I was tired afterward, but not dead to the world tired. I felt bad for about 4 days, mostly from the gas. The incisions never hurt only swollen pressure from surgery. I never thought of a "foreign object" inside me. I didn't go the RNY route because I couldn't stand the thought of "dumping". YUCK!

My mother had a RNY about 3 years ago and her recovery time was a lot longer than 4 days. She didn't feel better (normal)for about 3 months. Hope this helps with your decision. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
